Julie Andrews Turning 79 - this is hysterical!

To commemorate her birthday, actress/vocalist, Julie Andrews made a special appearance at Manhattan's Radio City Music Hall for the benefit of the AARP. One of the musical numbers she performed was 'My Favorite Things' from the legendary movie 'Sound Of Music'. Here are the lyrics she used:

(Sing It!) - If you sing it, it's especially hysterical!!!

Botox and nose drops and needles for knitting,

Walkers and handrails and new dental fittings,

Bundles of magazines tied up in string,

These are a few of my favorite things.

Cadillacs and cataracts, hearing aids and glasses,

Polident and Fixodent and false teeth in glasses,

Pacemakers, golf carts and porches with swings,

These are a few of my favorite things.

When the pipes leak, When the bones creak,

When the knees go bad,

I simply remember my favorite things,

And then I don't feel so bad.

Hot tea and crumpets and corn pads for bunions,

No spicy hot food or food cooked with onions,

Bathrobes and heating pads and hot meals they bring,

These are a few of my favorite things.

Back pain, confused brains and no need for sinnin',

Thin bones and fractures and hair that is thinnin',

And we won't mention our short shrunken frames,

When we remember our favorite things.

When the joints ache, When the hips break,

When the eyes grow dim,

Then I remember the great life I've had,

And then I don't feel so bad.

>>>>>>>>>>>>> > >>>>>>>>>>>> >>>>>>>

(Ms. Andrews received a standing ovation from the crowd

that lasted over four minutes and repeated encores.

Another fun gift emailed to me by my 92-year-old brother.  I guess he feels the detriments of old age more than I do, but he sure sends me a lot of old-age themed emails.  Those of us who are over the age of 75, and Julie just turned 79, know what she's singing about.  For you youngsters who are reading this, you've got this to look forward to.

I know he rarely sources what he sends me himself.  His friends send them to him and then he sends them to other friends of his.  He probably wasn't aware of her actual age.

By the way, while I was reading her song, I DID sing it in my mind.  It makes it more fun to do so.

Perhaps we should organize a Newstalkers choral group! (We could sing songs about politicians we don't like!)

Hitler only had one ball

Goering had two but very small

Himler had something similar

But Goebbles had no balls at all

After I had a heart attack at the end of 2021, yes.  Before that, no.  I turned 75 a couple weeks ago.

If I didn't eat spicy food here in the famous hot pot city I'd starve.  She mentioned "pain" but didn't mention "pain pills" - had to take one last night.

You may be eating so much hot food because its common there. But hot foods actually have health benefits!

The health benefits of spicy foods

It's actually the active ingredient Capsaicin (in Cayenne, Chili Peppers, etc)-- Black Pepper is different, I'm not sure it if has the same health benefits.

However Black Pepper is synergistic with certain other nutrients. (Its especially useful combined with Tumeric-- Turmeric {like Ginger} is a powerful natural anti-Inflammatory. But unlike Ginger, Tumeric is poorly absorbed).

To have the most benefits of the Curcumin in Turmeric, it should be taken with Black Pepper as well as food containing some Fat.

Although it may seem counter-intuitive, there are creams and ointments with "hot" powders in them that are used topically for pain!

I watched a Chinese movie recently wherein a person ate a scorpion to cure a malady.  Are there any recipes for scorpions that you know of?

Scorpion recipes? I’m not aware of any but I wouldn’t be surprised if there are some!

My guess is that very dilute Scorpion venom might be used in some Homeopathic remedies. (The efficacy of Homeopathy is controversial in the U.S. but IIRC it’s widely accepted in most of Europe).

Here is a screenshot from the movie.  A little Chinese girl is feeding a scorpion to an American Flying Tigers pilot who had crashed his plane near The Great Wall during WW2.  He ate it and it cured him.  Lets remember that this was just a movie and I'm sure the props person wasn't like the one for the movie Rust.
