I saw this when looking at wikipedia stuff about Terri Garr, who died today.
She had featured roles in two of the top 15 comedies of the 20th century , Young Frankenstein , and Tootsie.
I am in general agreement with this list but I wouldnt have Some Like It Hot at the top. I would prefer Blazing Saddles, Tootsie, or Annie Hall.

Good choices!
I think so too.
Comedy is a very subjective thing. For example, I would much rather watch Zero Mostel over Woody Allen. Just never cared for his movies all that much.
But there are a lot of good funny movies in that list of 20.
The first time I saw a Woody Allen movie I wasn't sure it was comedy! Or at least not mainly comedy.
Why? Because his portrayal of certain "NYC 'types'" was so brilliant! (It could have been labeled a documentary).
You'd have to have been there!
Wasn't War Of The Roses a comedy? I believe it was supposed to be.
Serial Mom? Romancing The Stone? Roger Rabbit? Kathleen Turner...

I don't think of some on the list of 20 to be comedies, although I know the designation is broad. However, to me it's just another list depending on certain persons' tastes, and everyone's tastes are different I personally would have put something by Charlie Chaplin in the top 20.
There are movies on this list that have a fairly extensive element of drama, MASH, The Apartment, The Graduate, The Philadelphia Story, and even Some Like It Hot a little. But I would still call them all comedies. Other than laugh riots like Airplane, the Top Secret spoofs, the Police Squad movies with Leslie Nielsen, and a few others, many comedies have scenes that are not constant laughs.
Charlie Chapman has four films in the top 100 but none in the top 20.
