Dear Friend Buzz: Chinais way ahead of us here in upstate NY regarding spring.

Yesterday was the first day of spring. Today is the vernal equinox. Local Great and Finger Lakes are still iced over here. My front and back yards are still covered in snow and ice. For the next ten days it will mostly snow, and be below freezing at night, and often during the daytime.

In upstate NY we do enjoy 72 non-consecutive hours of spring separating winter and summer. Thee are really only two seasons in these parts. Winter, and fixing pot holes.

Peace, Blessings, and Warmer Temperatures.

Enoch.

Great photos Buzz. Spring is indeed in the air.

We are enjoying beautiful weather here. 73 degrees today, partly cloudy.

Enoch, of course, is close to being in hibernation. No groundhogs in upstate NY.

pictures to prove you live in China,

Well, except for the guy fishing, of course. He could be moved to the lake a couple of miles away and nobody would notice, not even him.

Buzz, of course nobody catches any fish there. When you're still fishing like that, you're not really trying to catch any fish. You're just trying to get away for a few hours from the wife telling you that the lawn needs mowing, the sink is backed up and the cat is playing with a mouse in the kitchen. Much of the time, you don't even put a worm on the hook. If you did that, you might actually catch something. That would seriously interfere with your nap.

Dear Friend Kavika: No need to pity me. I just planted my early spring crop of frozen vegetables.

Smiles.

Buzz,

Your photo essays are always top drawer, and by virtue of subject matter, unique and special on NT.

Great contrast in the Dogwood shot!

Keep' em coming!

Really good photos Buzz !

There are some interesting veggies in Chinese markets that you won't find in your standard supermarket .

Some are very beneficial . Others you need to be careful with . For example :

bitter-melon
....
Adverse Reactions
Hypoglycemia and hepatotoxicity were reported in animal studies (27).
Toxicity: Ingestion of vicine (seed) may cause favism characterized by headache, fever, abdominal pain, and coma (26).
Case Reports
A 22-year-old man experienced atrial fibrillation with rapid ventricular response following ingestion of bitter melon two days before his admission for his dyspeptic complaints. He ingested crushed bitter melon and drank two tablespoons of its juice three times a day, and on the morning of admission as well. His symptoms improved after administering antiarrhythmic medication (28).
A 40-year-old man developed acute gastric ulceration following consumption of half a liter of concentrated homemade liquid extract of bitter melon. His symptoms included severe epigastric pain and hematemesis, which were managed with intravenous fluids, blood transfusion and intravenous rabeprazole (29).
Gastrointestinal problems have been reported with use of bitter melon (19).

The benefits are another story which you can find at the above link .
