Snow in March and 50 Male Robins!
I've been photographing nature and wildlife for years and have a degree in biology but never saw what I saw (and photographed) today!
Snow in March -- been there, done that!
50 ROBINS ALL AT ONCE (in the snow or anywhere else) probably.
50 ROBINS -- ALL MALES and aggressively chasing one another as if to establish food and breeding territory I presume -- never!
Until today.
With that kind of photo opportunity, it's hard not to get some real good images.
Here's one!
Male Robins have dark crown feathers, females, gray.
Wonder where the ladies are.
Stunning photo Mac.
The Ladies are playing coy, as usual.
Got a couple more similar shots but different body (birdie) language.
I'm hangin' out waiting for a male Redbellied Woodpecker to return; I saw him three times today but couldn't nail a good shot.
Hey Amac, that's a great shot.
Is the background white from snow or did you drop it out in Photoshop ?
Best to you.
Hey Pat,
The background is snow; I shot from an angle somewhat above the Robin and behind him and below was a snow-covered backyard that came up featureless because of the shutter speed and aperture combination.
Because I used a flash to fill in the shadow areas of the bird, I got a 1/60 second shutter speed. At that speed, the bright snow was overexposed and that made it both bright and featureless -- just right to make the subject pop!
Always makes me smile when you come around.
Very nice photo. He is fluffing his feathers to stay warm, I figure. The colors came out perfectly.
The ladies were all smart enough to stay down in Florida for a couple more weeks until it got warmer. I'm sure that they gave careful instructions to the guys, though, "You'd better have that nest at least half built by the time I get there, or else".
Out shopping, where else?
