MS Patient Walks into a Bright Future

MS Patient Walks into a Bright Future

The Jerusalem Post

Linda B. of Houston, TX had to hold on to furniture to move around her home.

Outside, she used a stand-up scooter. On good days she used a cane. Then, in Israel, she went to Hadassah Medical Organizations (HMO) Multiple Sclerosis Center and met with our world authority on neurodegenerative diseases. After four decades of struggling with MS, everything changed.

Lindas own bone marrow stem cells were harvested in a 20-minute procedure (almost painless, she says.) Two months later, the small number of cells had grown in the lab to tens of millions.

In a treatment developed at Hadassah's hospital, the stem cells were injected directly into Lindas spinal cord. Eleven injections and several years later, Linda walks without a cane. She has given away her scooter.

Now her favorite activity is holding her lively grandson.

Just another Israeli medical miracle shared with the rest of the world.

(Just for those who enjoy bashing Israel - don't take advantage of the benefits you have gained from that nation or else maintain your hypocrisy.)

What an incredible advance in stem cell technology . I expect other diseases will be conquered by similar treatments .

Gosh, I wonder if this would help my dear step-daughter. It would be worth anything to fix her MS...

Fabulous story. Israeli R&D is some of the most advanced in the world. We need to encourage them.
