The One and Only - The American Muscle Car
An article was posted regarding auto's today by an un-named NT. The comment drifted off into MBZ, BMW, Jaguar as being fast cars.
Some of the members, who shall remain nameless, began commenting on these auto's and how great they were.
I, of course, being an Original American was horrified. Here we were talking about cars from other countries as being ''bad''.
I went into attack mode and posted photos of my 1973 Gremlin X, which I drove at the Pomona Nationals. Now that was a real American car. Bad Ass all the way.
WTH is wrong with America today, have they not heard of the one and only. The Great American Muscle Car. Envied the world over, for it unlimited power, looks and sound.
A MBZ with sound, please, it sounds like Otto yodeling the cows home.
A BMW, LOL, Bavarian Motor Works, little elf's from the Black forest with bells on they slippers. Now that's sound for you.
A Jaugar, when you can get them to run, they sound similar to the English dish, ''Mud Pie'' falling on the floor.
We're talking POWER, raw power, and sound that will break your eardrums.
The American Muscle car is the Boss. Always has been, always will be.
May I present to you, just one of the great Muscle Cars from AMERICA.
The 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 429
The 429 was the racing version of the Mustang 302 Boss.
To all of you Muscle Car lovers, post photos of your favorite American Muscle Car.
I had the 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 302..
Post your photos of your favorite AMERICAN MUSCLE CAR.
I agree . I tried to set them straight by bringing up the awesome Tesla model S which will outperform any of these foreigner pieces O' shiite . Granted it does not look as fiercesome as your Mustang and it does sound anything like it either . In fact it is deadly quiet even while pumping out massive power . The accel on it is head snappingly fast , much more than any ol' IC car . Here it is with its understated looks :
That one is a beauty Mike. The Boss429 was built to compete with the 426 Hemi.
That you Petey, for defending what needs no defense, the American Muscle Car.
I've read a number of reviews of the model S...Impressive, really impressive.
A rocket without sound.
Of course some people prefer a car with an impressive sound . For those I would point to cars so legendary that they have their own hit song :
Turn it on Wind it up Blow it out !
Good one Petey, the GTO was an ass kicker.
Here is one on the Ford Cobra.
That was a very powerful little car ... the song was excellent too !
Only on Monday's and Friday's. They seem to have a bit of a fire problem those days.
Most IC engine race car drivers do ... Your attempt at exaggerating the fire hazard is just silly . Tesla do not explode unlike IC cars .
I think his timing is misadjusted ...
Have you heard about any Teslas getting recalled for a fire hazard ? I didn't think so . Can you name IC engine cars which have ? I can ... Remember the Pinto scandal ? BTW that was only the engine compartment on fire . Still no dangerous explosion ...
''The Boss'', really was the Boss Gunny.
Love the sound BF.
Great phots Mike. Mine was red, just like the one above.
Talking roar or speed is a very different thing. My 2006 S-2000 will do 150 MPH holds the road like its on a rail . The first versions of Hondas S-2000 would do 200 MPH no speed limitation safe to 10,000 rpm red line. The version I have the 2006 is red lined at 8,000 RPM. The Tesla is a whole other story. The early speed machines I loved until my wife and I drove an Alfa Romeo and fell in love driving the mountains in California. The S-2000 has speed with road holding safety. 5.5 0 to 60 MPH. Love muscle cars but don't trust the speed unless on a drag strip scenario.
Little bit of gravel or mud all bets are off period. Guess I should sell it this year when I hit 70. I still remember the drag strip and a little Station Wagon called Mrs. B's grocery getter a Pontiac Tempest wagon I believe with huge Pontiac power plant blew them all away at the winter nationals the one year I went and I was a teenager.
Really bad Bad Fish, shame on you. Not the weed, but you didn't take care of a classic..Bad, bad, bad, Bad Fish.
But gas was .25 cent per gallon. hahahaha, oh for those days again.
Think it may have been a dropped medicinal MJ Cigarette. Dam big fire bet the insurance agent had a heart palpitation with that phone call. One killer Insurance word (Totaled) $$$$$$$.
retired, I had a 911, I would have traded it in a hot minute to get my Boss back...
Threre is just something about the Muscle. Remember they were built in the 60's and 70's. Long before the models that you mentioned.
The 2013 Boss, 156MPH in the mile run.
Mike, I have a 1996 F-250, 7.3 liter. Took it to Gale Banks Engineering and had it tuned, with the Stinger Kit..It's a rocket and in perfect condition.
If that's a piece of shit I'll take two turds please.
LOL, you have to watch where you drop the medicinal weed...
I've done the same with some cars..LOL..they always get that ''deer in the headlights'' look on their faces.
Petey was it yours?
Have the most trouble with Porsche 911's they will pull a little ahead of me on the straights and they corner great as well. Don't remember a muscle car that waslightning fast and had good handling. But straight down the road the Grand National was wild. Have a relative who has one in her garage. Only driven on nice days. It is spotless no spots on engine either could eat off of that engine. Black as night and howls like a wildcat.
Had a four door Cadillac eat me for lunch in a little under 1/4 mile all we had. Stock it wasn't it was lightning but looked stock. No air scoop or blower. Just an evil sound and gone like the wind. Stayed close but could not stay with it.
Hah ! I wish I could afford one of those ...
I thought the photo was of your car Petey. How disappointing..
Dear Friend Kavika: The American muscle car driven in the most famous chase scene in USA cinematic history by Steve Mc Queen in the film, Bullitt really does it for me.
It was a green Ford Mustang with a manual stick shift that really tore up the hills of San Francisco in that car chase with the Plymouth fury.
Next time I win a lottery I am going to get me one.
Enoch, probably settling for an Ooga horn.
Someday baby ...
Do you have any photos of the front lawn trilogy?
That must have been awesome!
The only car I ever owned that was close to being (but really wasn't) a "muscle" car was my racing green 1973 Pontiac Grand Am coupe. It was the first model introduced - had a 250 bhp engine and a plastic nose.
That would be a great photo Justice. Do you have one?
Great looking car Buzz. It looks like power waiting to happen.
THIS is a muscle car -
This is one of the first muscle cars...1962 Plymouth Savoy 413 Max Wedge. It was a beast.
Yup, but in 1962 nothing on the road could compete with the Savoy..
It sure wasn't pretty, but under that hood, oh my.
Owned one of these from 1977 to 2005 (and yes, there's a reason she's the ex-wife):
1969 Pontiac Firebird 350 H.O. Convertible
My first car (yeah, it was called the batmobile):
It had lots of room inside, a 318, 2 bbl., 3 speed automatic push button tranny and an AM tube radio (took a little while to warm up the tubes). 1959 Plymouth Belvedere.
My older brother bought a used 64.5 from a friend at church when he was about 17. Black convertible, had the gold block V-8 and a 4 speed t handle shifter. Sweet car. Fell victim to some lady that left her kids in the car when she went in to get her birth control pills-kids knocked the brake off and the car rolled down a good size hill and destroyed the 'stang. He was young and didn't have the $$$$ to keep it and fix it.......
you just did.
Oh crap, a major crime.
Good find jwc.
Trading a wife for a Firebird. Hmmmm, sounds like a good deal to me.
Although I can't open it, Mike, I'll bet you posted the GTO song.
''Speed Queen'' wasn't that a washing machine?
Was it the Oldsmobile or the Pontiac that was always GM's tryout car; the one with the newconcepts that would find their way to all models if they worked out? I remember my dad once bought an Olds 98 that was so long you could park two VW Beetles in the same space you needed for one of them.
It was the Pontiac Buzz.
I owned 3 Pontiacs over the years, so I guess I was happy with their innovations.
Chevy Super Sport, nice car Dr Rock.
Great car, but I'll stick with the Boss 302.
The new (2013 and 14) are real ass kickers.
Dr Rock? A Mike L. by any other name is still a Mike L.
Mike, Justice, good addtions. It's difficult to get them all in, but we should keep trying. I'm off to see if I can find a photo of a very very rare car. A true powerhouse, but little known.
The 1958 Studebaker Golden Hawk. Top speed of 140 MPH.
Good one Mike, but please don't pull that, ''before my time''...A Muscle Car Lover, has no age limit's.
I believe that there are quite a few Muscle Car lovers on NT...perhaps some young ones in the bunch Mike.
ROTFL...big mistake Gunny.
The AMC Rambler 390.
Oh man, I'd forgotten about this one and the headlights. Good find Mike.
Another forgotten Muscle Car, the AMC Gremlin X.
This is what I drove in college.
Cool.
Another classic Steven. Thanks for the video.
Tasty.
Yeah!!
I've driven some BMWs, but they never did this.
Fun ride.
Good video Steve...Just love the power those babies had.
A North Dakota dragster.
A North Dakota Cad. I could not resist Justice.
The 455 c/i engine is the one that powered my Pontiac Grand Am which I showed earlier in this article. Later on I did own a Buick GS 350 coupe which resembled the Skylark but without the scoops and tac on the hood.
Great photos Mike.
Buzz, you were the upscale version of the the rest of us. Street boy, but not quite street boy.
A very Happy New Year to both of you.
This is the Shelby GT500, Super Snake from the man that was responsible for much of what we are posting.
Now that a real beauty Mike. I want one!!!!
''Menacing looking''.. I would fit that car to a ''T''.
I was thinking of the convertible Mike. Even more headroom.
What a visual. I'd be scaring the crap out of a lot of people.
I just saw this article and thought it should be posted here:
Rare Mustang Boss 302 emerges from barn after 40-year slumber
Read the article:
That looks like by 1985 Yugo BF. I used it for drag racing. Well I tried, but I kept loosing a lot of nuts and bolts.
I think that day, I may have backed into something. Probably a car that was catching up with me.After that little mishap, I went with the 1986 Wego (4 door version of the Yugo).
Oh wow, great article Buzz. What a find, it's looks in really good condition. The article states that the guy was only the 3rd owner. 43,000 miles, why didn't I find that..
It's like finding a buried treasure.
It doesn't seem to need a lot of restoration. If it had been kept up on blocks the tires could still be in good shape, although I don't know how long rubber lasts before it starts to deteriorate. The belts might need to be replaced. At 43,000 miles the tires found on the car were most likely a second set.
Don't be putting down my Yugo Mike, it was a beast. Well maybe not a beast, but close. I can't quite find the correct name for it. And POS isn't it...LOL
1955 Chevy, nice ride. I had a 55 Bel Aire hardtop. Red and White.
My brother had an old Javelin...304 and a 3 speed stick. Nice car. Wouldn't start when it was hot...had to cool down before the strater could push the engine over.......hot spots on cylinder walls........
Did anyone see this ?
If only I had A. time fo rthe trip, B. Money to buy several, C. The place to put them all!
I saw thata month or so ago Spike. Amazing, some cars with 1 and 2 miles on them.
Like you I wish for A, B, and C.
