Adirondack Autumn

Frustratingly Fabulous Foliage when you get home to find that the hundreds of pictures that you took while on a camping trip turned into fairy dust for your SD chip... But perseverance pays off, and while I didn't manage to recapture any of the photo's from my trip, I think my camera and my media are playing nicely together now (crosses fingers). Without further Preamble or Ado, I give you....
Adirondack Autumn
Heading out in the morning, the leaves and the light playing with the water.
The Sun dapples the leaves with splashes of shadow and light as reflections of trees and sky illuminate the water.....
And the sky shimmers with a clear blue background for the berries blowing in the breeze
At the Fox's Lair, the East Branch of the Sacandaga runs and the shadows lengthen...

Here is but a glimmering glance of the photos that I took...
Really pretty Brolly. The last one is a real beaut!
Nicely done especially the bottom image! Please share your fine photography with us regularly!
You Are most welcome, Raven Wing. Thank you for stopping by.
Thank you, Perrie! I had a hard time deciding which one to post for that last pic, I took several different brackets of that scene and most all of them were nice... which is pretty good for me to have a selection to choose from....
There are some images that just call out to you.... "I'm here! Take my picture..."
Usually I will get home and download them, crop them to be just right, but these images are purely from the Cameras POV, no post processing involved. (Except I did rotate some 90 degrees)
I love the shadow play on the leaves, and of course, the first one with the reflection on the water is beautiful.
The last one is simply inviting. It makes me want to spend some time there. The colors in all are magnificent.
Thank You, Chloe. The first is of Crystal Lake, not to far from where I board, the other images are from an old, once quite opulent resort that was Called Fox's Lair, outside of the Hamlet of Bakers Mills. The resort has returned to the trees, and the last picture is actually taken from a campsite there.
Brolly, these blow me away just like the leaves in the autumn breeze!
Brov - I apologize ahead of time if you tell me to mind my own business, but I had the feeling that your photos were a little dark and should be brightened a bit. I also reduced the pixels so that they would fit on the page without having to scroll to see the whole photo. Here is what I did:
Thank you for your poetic response!
The branches about that berry one were blowing all around and driving the auto focus on my camera wild, as indeed often happens when you are trying to take a picture and there are a myriad of objects in the field of view. I ended up taking the camera off of auto because it just couldn't or wouldn't focus on what I wanted it to.
Oh no! You can't do that! You violated my copyright..... Oh, well, I guess that you are too far for me to do anything about it. (Just kidding)
Different strokes for different folks, as the old saying goes.
I was thinking of using a smaller format, but like the larger images.... I guess that is because I used a nice, large monitor to work on. Slap my hand because I didn't consider people with smaller monitors/laptops. Bad Brolly!
The darkness was intentional, as I have my camera set at between -.3 and -1.5 exposure compensation because it is easier IMO to bring the light up in a picture than to tone down a washed out image, and as I told AMac, these images have not been altered. So, for those of you who agree with what Buzz has done, cheers and thanks. To those of you who don't: Hard cheese. There are always the originals....
Buzz, please take no offense, but I prefer the darker images, too. They add ambiance, imo. To me, some photos make more sense being bright when we want an 'active' or busy mood, but a photo that wants to emit a soothing, peaceful quality, should be darkened, it seems.
Kinda like the difference between early day sun and the aura of twilight.
My monitor is quite old (as are my eyes) so it is quite possible that the original photos are brighter than they show up for me. As Brol said, different strokes, because I felt that Autumn colours should be shown in their brilliance, but Chloe is also quite correct in seeing them darker as setting a mood. Sorry, I shouldn't have interfered.
I don't think you interfered at all!
I was just commenting that I felt a difference, but I use an LCD monitor so the brightness shifts with my position. Even with your settings, I could still find the mood I liked.
I wish I could see these places in person! Golly, it's Gorgeous!!!
I think we're going to have a wet, brown fall, here. Still green, but the sumac has finally turned!
Thanks so much for sharing these with us!
Yes Dowser, the sumac provides a brilliant crimson to the Autumn landscape - it's one of the brightest colours of the fall. I sure miss seeing them in person.
Buzz, It is quite alright.
I am in a bar band, and I see quite a few situations devolve into conflict, leaving me to say WTF???? I really do not understand the drivers of conflict nor what makes people in their right mind come to the point where they would actually willingly be an aggressor. I can see how someone would want to fight back, but the motivation for the initial stimulus I do not comprehend.
Not that I am saying that you two (or I) would fight, it just reminded me that people are sometimes fickle in their choice of response. You both did wonderfully, by the way. Nothing less than I would expect from two adults. I am glad that you liked my photos, thank you both very much.
You are so very welcome, Dowser.
Yes, even though the pictures make one take a second look, to be there in person and to view the natural beauty in-toto is so much greater than the limits of the view finder on a camera.
Thank you for visiting!
Just to note, I like that point; it's something I think about when I see it happen [like aggressive drivers, pulling up close to people, then pulling up to the driver to give them the finger, acting angry - and other stuff - might be on drugs or just had a cell-phone issue - who knows].
I think it's probably because when really nasty stuff happens, they probably 'aren't' in their right mind. lol... especially in a bar.
You're in a bar band? Like Rompin Ronnie Hawkins and the Hawks? They used to play the bars in Toronto for years, and the group without Hawkins became known as The Band (including Robbie Robertson, Garth Hudson and others), playing with Dylan and finding fame on their own.
There are some great stories about The Hawk (Hawkins). He had all the appearance of a hippie, and the mind of a "head". Here is a photo of him:
These are true stories - I was there for the second one myself.
Ronnie (dressed and looking like the photo above) wandered into the Rolls Royce dealership in Toronto and was looking at one of the new ones on display. A salesman who was worried about that "dirty hippie" damaging the car, went over and asked if he could be of any help, wanting to shoo him out of the showroom. Ronnie said I want to buy that car, and the salesman thinking that this was a nut case asked Ronnie if he realized how much the car cost, and Ronnie asked "How much?" The salesman told him it was more than $100,000. Ronnie then opened the briefcase he was carrying and in it was a hell of a lot more money than that. Ronnie bought the car for cash on the spot, and put the salesman into shock. I've seen Ronnie driving the Rolls Royce so the story is probably true.
The second story was when I attended a Variety Club lunch which honoured certain local musicians, and Ronnie was among them. Ronnie took the stand and spoke. He said: "I spend about two thirds of my money on wine, women and drugs. The rest I waste." I loved that speech.
I second that! More pictures please, Brolly .
Great photos Brolivar!
Where in the Adirondacks? I live in Warren County near Loon Lake.
So Do I...... I live in, get ready for it... Brant Lake. Grew up in Riparius. Incredibly small world we live in.
Wow! Amazing!
I live on Rt 8 about 2 miles west of C-town, just before Friends Lake Road. Lived inRiparius for a while, next door to Paul Little on E. Hudson River Dr. I know you must know Mr. Little, may have even been a student of his.
Don't really know too many people in this area, I moved up north from the Catskills in 1989, (Burnt Hills), then to Riparius in 2001, but my daughter knows almost everybody around here, she married young Tom Carroll, son of Big TC who owned the Panther Mountain Inn for over 50 years.
We should get together sometime, contact me via NT email, and we'll talk.
My Grandparents lived next door to Paul Little, which means you must have lived in their house.... And yes, I know Paul, he and my mother taught at, and I attended, JCS.
Wow, you were close by to my Family's place. Heading there in 2 weeks to help do the final 'close up' for the Winter.
Big house, with wrap around enclosed porch?
Where did you live in Riparius?
Where is your familys place Spike?
Some time I'd like to get to parts of the Adirondacks for some serious photography. I passed through years ago on my way to Maine and Prince Edward Island. I regret still that I had no time to stop.
