At the Family Place in the Mountains
I was lucky enough to go to 'The Lake' last weekend. We had a birthday celebration for my dad's 80th birthday. The Lake is one of my favorite places on the earth. Nice area, big enough to ski on the lake, small enough that people generally don't come over from the connected lakes, protected on 3 sides by mountains. I hope you enjoy the picture as much as I enjoy this little patch of heaven.
I'd love to tell you about the Cannon 8000 series with the 500 mm lens that I used....but in reality, it was my Droid Raz-r M. I committed the mortal sin of forgetting to pack my camera.....old age setting in, I suppose
I do love this place. We started coming here when I was in my single digits, my folks bought a place on the Lake in 1986 and have expanded it and improved it over the years and have put it into a trust for the next three generations. I learned so many things here-Warer Skiing, driving a boat, tubing, Slaloming and many other life lessons.
some other pics, same day:
and another:
Be right there with my camera and fly rod.
Nice!
I was up in Lake Placid in April and I found a sign with a painted loon on it and it says, "If you're lucky enough to be on the lake.....you're lucky enough".
I knew I had found the right present for dad.
Great photo Spike. Love the one with the thunder clouds.
I'll be joining Mac for photos and fishing.
Very nice, thanks for sharing.
Come on over! The folks always like to entertain people-and it's something they imparted to their children. Generally, drinks and snacks on the dock in ealry afternoon (I'm n charge of the Nachos, as I'm the family expert).
My soul is always at rest when the lake comes into view on the trip there. I'm glad you liked it.
My pleasure!
Nachos!!!, did you say Nachos...I'm on my way.
yeah, and really good ones...involving the legendary Ro-Tel.
Serene! Very nice, Spikegary. Thanks for sharing.
I'll bring some Ojibwe Fry bread for you to sample Spike.
Are there walleye's in the lake? I'm really good at cooking up a walleye fish fry.
Not much in the way of walleye's. more sunnies and some catfish. The lakes were back flushed with sawdust form a mill in the early 20th century, killed the vegetation in the lakes, which in turn killed of fthe fish, they were making it back, then acid rain in the lakes caused another de-population. Things are better now and continue to get beeter, though it's never slowed down our enjoyment of the water. I do a yearly rite of passage, swimming across the lake and back.... something I'll continue doing, just because......
My pleasure-I enjoy your photos and thought this would be a nice set to post.
Hi Gary,
Meant to comment before, but I got side tracked. Really lovely picture. Looks lovely there.
Thank you, Spike - this is a lovely one! Do post more, please!
Does your cottage look to the sunrise or the sunsets over the lake? Mine overlooked the sunrise, which we greeted sitting on the dock with a cup of Gull Lake Coffee (2/3 coffee, 1/3 Bailey's Irish Cream) listening to the loon calls echoing down the lake, but my fondest memories are of my grandmother's cottage which overlooked the sunsets over the bay.
Wish I could retire in a place like this
Looks to be in the Adirondacks, I could swear that I saw those very same clouds pass by this week.
Where ever it is, sure is nice!
Thanks, Perrie. It is-and one of our neighbros is an ex-cop from Long Island.....not too bad a commute there!
Actually it faces eat, but the mountain and trees block it some so you can sleep in, then look at the lake as soon as you wake up!
There's a place down the road a spell for sale......
good guess.....and thank you!
My pleasure, thank you.
