A new study published in the American Journal of Ophthalmology shows that rates of preventable blindness in Israel have been cut by more than half over the last decade, from 33.8 cases of blindness per 100,000 residents in 1999 to 14.8 in 2010.
Israels success in preventing and treating all four main causes of avoidable blindness age-related deterioration, glaucoma, diabetes and cataract is unmatched anywhere else in the world, says the studys lead author, Dr. Michael Belkin of the Goldschleger Eye Research Institute at Tel Aviv Universitys Sackler Faculty of Medicine and Sheba Medical Center.
Other countries could see similar results by emulating Israels approach, suggests Belkin, one of the foremost ophthalmology researchers in Israel.
The secret of Israels success? Developing innovative methods of prevention and treatment and making them available universally through the national medical system.

Israeli technological advances do not stop. There are more benefits for the blind created in Israel:
Those are only a couple of examples of Israeli inventions that benefit all mankind. (BDS supporters should exclude themselves of all such benefits.)
Buzz, it's too late for those BDS fools. They are already blinded by hatred.
I'd bet my money that those BDS ignoramuses make considerable use of Israeli products and inventions - especially the medical benefits. Hypocrisy personified. They also don't give a shit about how many Palestinians lose their jobs because of the success of their efforts (which fortunately are not greatly successful).
For me, the utmost ignorance are the academic boycotts, and refusing to host Israeli medical geniuses from speaking at their conferences - talk about shooting yourself in the foot!!!
Who was it who said "Such fools we mortals be."
If BDS were to be successful many Palestinians would lose their jobs (jobs which are,for the most part, much higher paying then they could get elsewhere.
There's a worldwide BDS campaign (Unsuccessful as BDS campaigns are) to have Sodastream close down their factory in the West Bank. Even though the company provides high paying jobs, along with great working conditions, for Palestinians in the West Bank. (In addition to jobs, it provide an opportunity for Palestinians, Jews, Druze and others to interact-- and to break down old, negative stereotypes).
Here's some excellent information about what goes on in that factory (sorry Buzz-- its a video-- but its one of the most informative things I could find):
P.S: I just seeded an article that provides more information about efforts to improve relations between Israelis and Palestinians:
Here's an interesting article that directly addresses that point:
