Buzz,Note just above the rapids is the end of a pool where the smaller trout wait to eat what the drift brings. At the top of the pool are the bigger trout who chase out the smaller ones; the big guys get first dibs on what enters the pool from the riffle zone that flows into it.There's no chaos in Nature; only in the human's inability to grasp it.
I once learned how to fly fish, but I never caught anything doing it. I do know, though, that a lot of trees around makes it impossible for casting. I suppose when there isn't a clearing you can just lay the fly on the water.

There's a technique called "roll casting" that enables fly fisherman to keep from losing flies in trees. Imagine you want to get the loops out of a garden hose without walking 50 feet to do it. Lift the part of the hose nearest to you and with a downward motion, roll it. Same idea with a fly rod.
A number of years ago, physicists/mathematicians at Berkley experimented with paint swirls, pouring one color into another and stirring; the found that the swirls could be defined mathematically and hence "The Mathematics of Chaos," fractals and other phenomena.

Beautiful! You make it seem like the little birds were so close they had to be sitting on the end of your glasses. We don't have White-throated Sparrows here. Well, I guess we get about one maybe two that come through with the White-crowns in the winter. Even though I'm quite an avid birder I haven't seen one yet. I look forward to that highlight.

The only concern I have about that stream is how difficult it would be to whip a fly around. Nice shots, A.Mac, as usual.

''There's no chaos in Nature; only in the human's inability to grasp it''...Perfect Mac.
Love the photos.

Thanks Kavika,

'Course, not everyone agrees.
Thank you Charles B
