Israelis discover gene responsible for liver disease

Israelis discover gene responsible for liver disease

Groundbreaking advance clears the way for future medications to better target a deadly problem.

By Karin Koosterman - April 7, 2013, for ISRAEL21c

7027_discussions.jpg Dr. Rifaat Safadi is on a mission to find a cure for liver disease.

After years of hunting, Dr. Rifaat Safadi and his team of Hadassah medical researchers in Jerusalem have found the gene that causes liver disease. This groundbreaking discovery paves the way for potential new treatments.

Safadi, an Arab-Israeli physician who heads the Liver Unit at Hadassah University Hospital in Ein-Karem, tells ISRAEL21c that while the gene, Neuroligin 4 (NLGN4), was already known to be involved in brain neuron communication, his team was the first in the world to identify NLGN4 in the immune system and liver.

Yet another medical advance created for the benefit of the whole world by those "apartheid genocidal vicious militant baby-murdering philo-Semitic blood-sucking Zionist" Israelis. BDS supporters take note - don't take advantage of Israeli discoveries that might cure your liver disease or you will be hypocrites. And by the way, don't eat any cherry tomatoes either.

Right you are. It's been too long since I've had to read the drivel and rants of those dedicated anti-Semites on NV.

In regard to NV, I must admit that, although rather unpleasant, I think those haters kept me sharper. My attention to detail has dulled slightly since the transition. Rather than just refute and insult, I would reference their falsehoods to factual information, and THEN refute and insult.

Feels like I'm on summer break or something...

If it makes you guys feel any better, I could take the other side for fun. Flamethrowers at the ready?

Of course the Israelis "discovered" the gene that causes liver disease They probably created it in the first place!

How was that?

'sigh'

It's just not the same, Larr.

It's different here, and all in all, it's for the better. There's no point in mixing it up with folks that won't change their mind anyway.

There are a couple of people here that will mix it up on certain topics. There are some former soldiers who live out west that have a thing about the Liberty. Then there are people that 'hate what both sides are doing', but only verbalize against Israel. There are also those people that fall for the civilian casualty canards that the Arabs are so well trained in spreading.

Sometimes it just feels like someone took my flamethrower away and handed me a Ronson lighter.22.gif

An interesting fact about this story is that the doctor happens to be an Arab who is living in Israel, and who has the opportunity to achieve his goals. He doesn't look too unhappy to me. If the Palestinians were to make peace with Israel instead of maintaining their hatred, the pride of such accomplishment you see in that photo would most likely become common among them instead of being unusual. I will be posting an article by an Iranian foreign service expat who says the same thing.

Maybe another Nobel Prize to go with the other 149 awarded to Jews? Compared to the 5 awarded to Muslims.

The Israeli population is a testament toprogressivesociety and the betterment of mankind. Can we say the same for Arab Muslims?
