We used to be 26th
Medicare for all is the only plausable answer!
Sad state of affairs indeed, our educational ranking is no better. But we are number one in defense spending, yeah!
The policy of the AMA and the pharmacutical companies is treat not cure. That and the fact that the America insurance companies do not like to insure or treat the poor, or middle class who cannot afford their exorbatant
insurance rates. Affordable care act will help but no solution to the cure instead of treat psychology.

Prior to Ronald Reagan's deregulation frenzy, health care was inexpensive and very affordable. Only a handful of insurance companies provided it such as "Blue Cross/Blue Shield" and they were limited by government regulations to only a 10% profit. The corporatist's saw this as an untapped source for massive profits and convinced the gullible Reagan to uncork a series of deregulation measures which eventually saw out health care system plummet in quality (unless you can pay premium prices) and costs skyrocket.
Since there is no going back, "single payer" health care is the way to go.
Luther28 defense spending is so far out of control we spend way more than anyone actually if I remember more tha the next six largest military spending countries. A large share of our industriall base is defense connected. Even some of the military spending is using foreign countries to produce it.
We just keep building our military just like Russia did before they went into a huge downward economic time. Its mostly debt spending because we sell it to our government and borrow the money to do it. That is where the spending goes not into health care and medicssl research.
