Sunday Gravy Pasta Sauce. $35 A Jar?

Sunday Gravy Pasta Sauce. $35 A Jar?

A NEW YORK CITY CHEF IS HOPING SHOPPERS WILL LOOK AT MORE THAN JUST THE PRICE TAG OF HIS PASTA SAUCE. STEVEN SMITH AND HIS BUSINESS PARTNER GRACE CLERIHEW ARE CHARGING 35-DOLLARS FOR A 32-OUNCE JAR OF WHAT THEY CALL "SUNDAY GRAVY," WHICH IS ALMOST FIVE TIMES MORE THAN WHAT THE USUAL JAR OF SAUCE GOES FOR IN THE SUPERMARKET. BUT SMITH SAYS THAT'S NOT A FAIR COMPARISON, BECAUSE THOSE ARE TOMATO SAUCES WHILE HIS IS A BRAISED MEAT AND TOMATO SAUCE. HE EXPLAINS THAT THEY SPEND SIX TO EIGHT HOURS SLOW-BRAISING PORK SHOULDER AND BEEF CHUCK BEFORE ADDING IT TO A PLUM TOMATO SAUCE WITH BASIL, ONIONS, GARLIC, MINI-MEATBALLS AND SLICED SAUSAGE. SMITH IS CURRENTLY WORKING ON GETTING SUNDAY GRAVY INTO GROCERY STORES, BUT FOR NOW, ANYONE WILLING TO FORK OVER THE MONEY CAN BUY IT AT www.SUNDAYGRAVYNYC.COM .

Sorry, but for 35 dollars a jar, I can make my own pasta gravy/sauce for myself with meat in it for a lot less. That's why I own pressure cookers. They do a great job infusing the food in them and in less than an hour.

Good luck, but I just do not see any one in their right frame of mind spending 35 dollars on a 32 ounce jar of meat and pasta sauce.

I can make it for a lot less with my pressure cooker and ingredients. The man is obviously trying to make a "big" buck here, but as well as a name for himself, but he pretty much ended up making a fool of himself since most retailers will not stock their shelves with a 35 dollar jar of pasta sauce with meat in it.

35 dollars can buy a lot of other food rather than one jar of pasta/gravy sauce imo.

True dat, but the man is trying, but I do not see it being on any store shelf anytime soon, if not, ever.

I saw him on Faux News promoting it this morning, and he apparently is having trouble selling the product to the retailers. Retailers aren't stupid. They know this stuff will not move from the shelf, and they have to be refrigerated as well, and has a shelf life of 1 week.

On the Faux News show, the three maroons did a taste test of 3 different sauces, yet, they chose his "of course" all because it had big chunks pf meat in it.

The taste test was pretty funny because they had 3 plates of the sauce/gravy on one plate and then two other plates with Hunts and some other pasta sauce on it.

Yet, he wants to charge the consumer 35 for a jar of it, and feeds the whole Faux News team with the stuff for free. I can see why they chose his sauce/gravy. If you are going to feed me something for free and it's good, I pick your product to.

It sounds like the market they're aiming for are people with money than sense who wil buy the sauce because it is so expensive.
