The Strategic Importance of Keystone XL
Why has the fight over a pipeline, which, if completed, would provide only 4% of the US petroleum supply, assumed such strategic significance? As in any major conflict, the answer lies in three factors: logistics, geography, and timing.
The decision on the Keystone XL Pipeline is up to president Obama. Environmentalists want him to reject it. The Republicans, oil and energy billionaires say the pipeline will give the US independence. But even one of their own conservative Media Czar Rupert Murdoch says the pipeline isn't worth the trouble. He feels it's titling at windmills. Murdoch thinks fracking would be cheaper and cleaner.Fracking? Rupert, really?
Opponents of Keystone XL, who are planning a mass demonstration at the White House on February 17th.
The Mother Jones article is long, but worth it.

As a reminder, the Koch brothers are huge investors in Canada's heavy oil(tar sands) industry. They also own mineral rights across Alberta, Canada.
As another reminder....
The oil from this pipeline goes on the international market. It will do NOTHING to reduce the price at the domestic pump.
As another reminder...
This is NASTY crap! It has a very high sulfur content say against Midwest crude, and lots of crap that has to be disposed of after refining.
One only has to goggle the spill of this crap into the Kalamazoo River in MI. Over two years ago and it still isn't cleaned up. Cost of clean up through the roof.
Even the Canadians are hesitant to build pipelines for this crap to the West or the East. I guess they don't want it in their backyard either. Do they know something we don't know? I don't think so. They just don't have as many bought and paid for members of congress as we have in the republican party.
If anyone was serious and informed about reducing domestic fuel costs, they wouldn't be pushing for the XL pipeline.
Lets look at this long term. Will we need it in twenty years? Fifty years? How about a century? Will oil even be used for anything in the future?
Good question. I think fracking will strip our land and it will all look like W.Va. Fracking will ruin the aquifers, our drinking water. We may have to turn to solar power. I don't know, but I am worried.
Hydrocarbons are the backbone of most plastics. It is hard to see a would where we don't make use of plastics in some form or another.
The Canadian citizens are smart and they stay better informed. They still have investigative news there. They are hoping that the US citizens wake up but do not expect much from us. They know our leaders are for sale. I have spent a lot of time around them. My best friend that recently passed away, knew more about what was happening in the US than the majority of our citizens. They do not have any love for fracking. We will not see any benefits from the Keystone pipeline fracking. We will get stuck with millions of not billions in clean up costs. All tax payer money.
I am not sure but I was under the impression that the project was most an American run corporation using the Canadian flag and bylaws..
