iPhone Accessory & Tripod Give More Control

9188_discussions.jpg Using an adapter that enables iPhones to sit on a standard tripod head, I was able to do the following:

1) Get close to the subject (Zinnia)

2) Selectively focus on the part of the scene I wanted by tapping the screen on that portion of the image

3) Press the camera icon (shutter release) on the iPhone and take the picture without fear of shaking the camera as might easily happen if hand-held

4) Crop the image using the edit feature on the iPhone itself

5) e-mail the image to myself, copy the image from e-mail to computer desk top and ...

6) Do additional editing in Photoshop

NOTE: As in my earlier article about iPhones, this image is taken in HDR format ...

Remember, this image was taken with a phone, not a high-end or even a point-and-shoot digital camera.

Have an iPhone or similar device and want to use it to get into photography?

If so ... I will be happy to assist.

Ask questions, post your pix!

I will post a picture of the iPhone in the tripod adapter while on the tripod; the adapter cost me only $7.95! I will be using it for video as well as stills and that should be a bit of fun ...

Even so, the image is as good in quality if not better than some of the early digital camera ... and doubtless, the technology will advance continuously.

I am amazed at the quality of the photos that this phone takes! I have been goofing around with it. It is quiteversatileandconvenient!

Are you going to try any of those new iPhone lenses? I was shocked to find them. Who knew?

I'm not interested in any other iPhone accessories such as zoom lenses. I see the iPhone as if it were as really good starter camera, one that enables learning the basics without investing money beyond which was spent for a (highly versatile) phone.

That's not to say that other accessories such as zoom lenses won't satisfy the casual photographer ... but I like to think that once someone has mastered the basics, it might be the time to consider a "more serious" camera. Now, having said that, I would not be surprised if, as the technology progresses, the iPhone evolved into a "serious camera." This is possibly subjective I know.

Best iPhone Camera Accessories: Lenses, Flashes, Tripods

...

Understand, I have used just one accessory for the iPhone camera, that being a tripod adapter (which I like very much). Hopefully the linked article will be worthwhile.

10712_discussions.jpg The tripod adapter mounts on the screw on the tripod head ... the screw diameter is a standard size. The red oval indicates a padded clamp that lifts to accept and hold down the mounted iPhone. The blue oval is the platform on which mounted iPhone sits.

10713_discussions.jpg The iPhone in the adapter set up for horizontal shots.

10714_discussions.jpg The mounted iPhone with orientation for vertical shots.

The adapter cost me $7.95. It makes video using the iPhone a lot easier.
