NO-color, NO-toriously bleak, NO-good nature photography opportunities ... NO-vember? Well, some years it's "YES-vember" (Thanks to Malamute Man for that clever term.)
Last November (2010) I posted some photos as a kind of self-challenge, one to see if there were any decent nature photos to be made in a month that is generally perceived as offering few to none in most years. This of course would apply to temperate areas with distinct seasonal changes ... like in the northeastern U.S. - like in Pennsylvania where I do most of my nature photography.
No remaining peak fall foliage, no snow scenes, no flowers ... no butterflies ... NO-vember nature photography seems to call for black and white images showing forms, light and contrast set in strong compositions .
The November 2010 photos were pretty good, good enough for Malamute Man to come up with the term "YES-VEMBER!" So, you'd think that a few days ago, when I set out into a forest in Pennsylvania's Pocono Mountains, I would have had a "Yes-vember" mindset instead of the black and white one I took along. Once into Hickory Run's woods, Mal's "YES-VEMBER" came back loud and clear ...
Herein are some of yesterday's images ... some full color, others in black and white.
Thanks Mal! "YES-VEMBER," - NO-problem.

Just Beautiful,
I just love the first one!
Yes-vember. I like that. It's so positive!
Hey Thanks for the credit A Mac!
Their AMaculately conceived...
Just a thought... That ribbon-like stream in #1 is so lovely... Why not crop off the top 40% or so of that image and then display it full width so the stream is more visible???
Mal,
I actually have a cropped (zoomed-in) version; I'll post it shortly.
I like shop talk. I learn from it.
Very nice!!! I wish it looked as sunny around here as it looks out there...
Hi Perrie,
I hope you are well...
Mal is a little under the weather... figuratively and literally... I have a miserable cold which is currently morphing from the incessant coughing stage to the stuffy head / runny nose stage... It's not raining... at the moment... but it looks like the clouds of Mordor are hanging over mount Doom...
[Mal squeezes a half a lemon into his bowl... adds a big dollop of honey... a dash of Scotch and water... microwaves it... laps it up... curls up on his bed...]
Poor Mal!
I'm sorry to hear that you are not feeling well. Your remedy is one of my favorites. A hot toddie and lots of sleep.
Rainy and nasty here in NY. A typical November day.
[perrie tucks Mal into his doggie bed]
Nice! I have to choose 4, 5, 6 ...but you alreadyknow that I think they're all great.
I'm going out on a limb here ... I just began looking at the rest of my shots from Sunday and there are several that I think may be the best of the bunch! I've done some experimenting with the black and white image manipulation ... a different twist or two ...
Thanks for all the kind words.
Mike ... watch the mail.
It is just uncanny howaffectingperception is; very nicely done A.M.!
