Has a quote ever changed your mind on an important issue or made you think about something in a different way? Do you just enjoy reading daily quotes, seeking a smile or a bit of motivation?
Everyone's choices for the best quotes of all time will vary based on what influences them. But we've looked through hundreds of quotes and picked some of the best quotes of all time across several different categories to share with you here today. Enjoy them below, and if another quote didn't make the list but you absolutely love it, please share it with us in the comments.
Please note: Categories are listed alphabetically, and within each category individual quotes are in no particular order. Some quotes have been shared with multiple versions on the Web with slight variations in each. If we ran into these situations, we chose the variation that appeared to be most commonly presented. Also, some quotes could technically fall under multiple categories. In those cases they were placed under the one we felt was most relevant at the time.

Some really good ones here.
This was my moniker on NV, and I try to live by it:
Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing themselves.
Leo Tolstoy
I didn't hear this quote and then make changes... but it describes what I did that brought so much positive change into my life...
I will follow my instincts.... Be myself for good or ill, and see what will be the upshot.
~ John Muir
Then there is this one that I saw in my doctors office which I feel is so very pertinent for all in our world today...
When you find peace within yourself, you become the kind of person who can live at peace with others.
~ PeacePilgrim
Mal,
I love the peace Pilgrim. What a lovely thought!
That's really great advice!
(And, ironically-- if everyone just changed themselves-- the entire world would be changed!)
Exactly!
Sorry if this is too hokey for any of you, but for me, it's Deuteronomy 8:3:
"He subjected you to the hardship of hunger and then gave you manna to eat, which neither you nor your fathers had ever known, in order to teach you that man does not live on bread alone, but that man may live on anything that G-d decrees."
Sorry if I took this in the wrong direction...
Actually no, Jon. I have never realized where the expression that "man does not live on bread alone" comes from. Now I have some context.
"
Lifes tragedy is that we get old too soon and wise too late.
- Benjamin Franklin"
Reminds me of this e-mail I saw that asserted that life was backwards. That we should be born old, wise, and as our lives progress we get younger, until we end our lives as an orgasm!
That's the way to go!
LOL, so flipping true.
Unless, of course, you have some damned politician that is willing to support you if you vote for him or her!
Nice quote!
(Makes me wonder, though, how come there are so many people in online discussion forums who obviously haven't found peace within themselves...?)
No problem-- the hokier the better!
