People were more brand loyal to cars then versus now.
My father only bought and drove a Chevrolet.
A neighbor across the street wouldn't touch anything but a Ford.
Another neighbor was proud to be seen in his Chrysler.
I remember milk and bread delivery trucks.
Meat was bought custom prepared from a butcher shop.
Sunday mornings we would go out for the Sunday NY Times at Frank's general store.
Then on to Tobatchnik's for fresh bakes rye bread, bagels, bialys lox (smoked salmon) and cream cheese.
For dinner it Cohen's Knishes, all beef franks with fresh cut sauerkraut and sharp deli mustard on site baked rolls. Cans of Dr. Browns Cream or Black Cherry Soda, or Moxie were the beverages of choice.
Then it was home to watch "I Remember Mama" starring Gertrude Berg.
On birthdays we went to Eppes Essen (Something to Eat) for special event treats.
I can only dream of K-rations these days: Knishes, Kishka, Knuckers, Kashe, Kreplach, Korned Beef Sandwiches on fresh-baked rye, Kugel, KabbageRolls, KosherDills.....
I hate for this series to end! What wonderful pictures-- and thank you for bringing them to us!
Gosh, they all look so familiar...
Even putting lights inside the building, as in the second photo, adds so much to the realism.

The culinary landscape is very different now.
Time marches on I suppose.
Each in their own time and way.
Its good to recall times past.
Thanks for the warm memories.
