Rabbi Shmuley Boteach Explains It All on Gay Marriage
Rabbi Shmuley Boteach of TLC's show, "Shalom in the Home", is an Orthodox Rabbi who uses common sense when applying the teaching of the Bible. He did this really interesting video about Gay Marriage and while I don't agree with everything he says, he does make some excellent points. Please take the time to watch the video all the way through.
Let's try again
This makes a whole lot of common sense.
Thanks Perrie...makes a lot of sense to me, too.
Solid logic through and through.
It is for that single reason, the good Rabbi's video will be rejected by more than a handful of our NT members. They don't get it, and they never will get it until their closest religious leaders start to use the same logic.
Thanks for seeding it Perrie.
I'm so glad that I do not relate to this guy and can eat shellfish without feeling guilty.
I saw this on FB and found it very interesting. He seems to have reconciled how to deal with this issue with his faith. No hypocrisy here.
Very good video Perrie. Making sense when many do not.
For the record, I have always advocated the separation of marriage and civil union as the former is a religious entity and the latter is a civil one.
I agree. It is time to move on.
I'd like to see more gay boyscout leaders . After all , what better example for our youth to follow than buggery ?
Wonderful video! Thanks!
On a separate, but related subject, Gov. Beshear is going to file charges against those County Clerks who refused to give marriage licenses to gay couples. Refusal to do one's duty, as an elected official, is a misdemeanor, punishable by up to one year in prison. Just a side note.
Dear Friend Perrie: Here is my take. As a proudlyOrthodox Rabbi I have no problem performing a marriage between any two consenting adults where it is legal. I hope that marriage among two consenting adults it is soon universally legal everywhere.
Scripturally, there is a distinction between Chet (sin) and Toe-eyvah) (abomination). Chet is sin. It adversely affects salvation. Toe-eyvah is abomination,. It hasn't anything to do with salvation. By the bye, in Biblical times abomination wasn't the pejorative it is today. All it meant then is that this isn't what you would expect. It isn't the social norm. That doesn't make it a sin.
What is a sin is not being the keeper of your brothers and sisters, not loving your neighbors as yourself' and not serving G-d by serving ALL His children (even if different than you). That can cost an individual their salvation.
Of course, I am writing solely as an Orthodox Rabbi and Chaplain. People, clergy or not who follow other heritages and ideologies (however the spirit moves them, or their humanitarian ideology take them) need to find their own way.
As with all things I human history, over time human rights issues win out. Acceptance as equals those who want nothing morethat to live together for life in a loving sustainable and enduring relationship should and ultimately will be recognized as equals.
There are many more pressing and important things about which to worry, and take progressive action.
Restoration of the middle class, full employment, cleaning up the environment. using technology to benefit all, not only the upper crust financially are all more important items to address.
Peace, Abundant Blessings, Equality, and Doing the Greater Good forOne and All.
Enoch.
Enoch,
I took a lot of theology classes in my college days, both a blessing and a curse as it made me less religious than more... but that aside.
But I do remember learning the difference between sin and abomination and your explanation is spot on. Only sin counts in gods eyes. Everything else is just not socially acceptable. I do believe that this is particular to Judaism, but I am not sure. But in any case, since the bulk of any discussion on whether or not being gay is a sin, falls on the Old Testament/ Torah/ Ten Commandments, this should defer to the original text and how it was originally intended.
Thank you for your input. As always, wise and thoughtful!
Petey,
And do you realize that there is a difference between being a pedophile, gay or otherwise?
Great News!
I know it matters to some gay couple to be able to get married in a house of worship, but that they can't demand. But the civil right, they can.
Glad you thought so, Feronia.
Did you take time out of your busy schedule to actually read my comment or did you merely jump to unfounded conclusions ?
Yes I did.
Why would you have an issue with gay boy scout masters? You said... buggery. That means you think they do it to get to little boys...
Buggery can be done to all ages . You are clearly obsessed with pedophilia ...
Dear Friend Dowser: What happened to this action by the Governor?
Please keep us posted.
Thanks.
Best wishes to you and yours for a great summer weekend.
Enoch.
