Boko Haram blast kills scores in Nigeria's Maiduguri

When the independence movement swept through Old Europe's worldwide colonial empires in the 1960s, the two principal colonial powers took two very different paths.

The French gave independence fairly easily... but then maintained military bases all across their former African possessions, and have intervened on many occasions to "keep the lid on"... to prevent various local conflicts, often tribal, from getting too nasty. Some Africans railed against "neo-colonialism", but most quietly recognized that it was not a bad thing to have a cop on the beat.

The British, on the other hand, at first resisted the independence movements. They fought very dirty "anti-terrorist" wars throughout East Africa. When it became obvious that they could not win... They pulled out. They left behind a clutch of "nations" whose borders had been drawn in European salons, and whose people had no preparation at all for governing. The inevitable result has been wholesale graft, and inter-tribal slaughter.

Nigeria is a prime example. Almost from its creation, in 1960, there was inter-tribal conflict, escalating to the "Biafran War" and the genocide against the Igbo people. And of course, the British kept economic control of Nigeria's vast oil resources, by bribing corrupt officials. Today, Nigeria is wracked by an Islamist terrorist movement, Boko Haram , which has murdered some twenty thousand innocent bystanders.

The international community doesn't give a flying rat's ass. The victims are Black, after all...

Boko Haram blast kills scores in Nigeria's Maiduguri

original article from al Jazeera

The armed group's attack is the latest in a six-year campaign that has left an estimated 20,000 people killed.

At least 65 people have been killed during an attack by Boko Haram armed group in northeast Nigeria.

The blast took place in the country's northeastern city of Maiduguri on Saturday, according to a Reuters reporter, who counted the bodies at a hospital morgue.

A Nigerian military spokesman, Colonel Mustapha Ankas, said that Boko Haram fighters attacked the community of Dalori, about 5 km east of Maiduguri, on Saturday evening.

The armed group has carried out an uprising that killed 20,000 people in six years and driven 2.3 million people from their homes.

The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) says that up to one million children have been forced out of school as a result of the instability.

Boko Haram group has also carried out deadly cross-border raids in neighbouring Chad, Cameroon and Niger.

I haven't heard even the most ferocious hawks proclaim their desire to put boots on the ground in Nigeria...

This is a public forum Bob . If you can't stand disagreements you shouldn't state such controversial opinions with undeserved authority ...

Bob,

Nobody cares. They are Africans. And as it was well said in Hotel Rwanda....

Colonel Oliver : [ explaining why the world will not intervene ] You're black. You're not even a nigger. You're an African.

If the only reason that Bob can come up with is that the Nigerians are black , he is not looking very hard for other explanations . Not surprising from a liberal one-track mind ...

I will clarify. I don't think the world cares about Africans. For some reason when it happens in Syria, everyone cares. What is the difference?

For some reason when it happens in Syria, everyone cares.

Perhaps that's because the middle east is so unstable that any major disturbance there can spread so easily to other countries ... just my guess .

Actually, Petey, that's a pretty good guess. When the African tribes slaughtered each other it didn't spread outside of Africa so nobody cares (although there has been a fair amount of immigration of whites from South Africa) but when you have ME countries providing terrorists migrating that threaten the rest of the world (perhaps even to within our lifetimes becoming nuclear threats), we should all be concerned.  However, Europe is getting a taste of African migrants these days, and you can read the results of that...so perhaps there is something to be concerned about.

To paraphrase president obama, just some dudes randomly blowing up some other folks. No need to wonder why.

It's their religion to do what they do. Their co-religionists around the world follow suit. There are many who refuse to see the connection.

That's mathematically absurd. If all Muslims were killing everyone around them, there would soon be no one left in that part of the world.

That's mathematically absurd. Murdering each other does not equate to extinction.

"That's mathematically absurd."

Not so, their religion, dictated by the Q'oran, is FULL of directions to carry out what their co-religionists (those who interpret their religion as does Boko Harum) believe, but does NOT include those who do not interpret the Q'oran so literally, which surely includes the majority of Muslims. There are many Muslims who murder each other because of their differing beliefs in their religion - which is pretty primitive.

The left demonized humanitarian efforts in Iraq. I assume they want to ignore any suffering around the world. It's a little too late to whine now.

Such a beautiful continent, to be blighted by so much violence.

I wonder if the proximity of isis to such a highly volatile and visible region as the ME, isn't part of the reason Africa gets so much less attention. Also, the proximity of Islamists to nukes in the ME.

I got to visit with a friend I hadn't seen for a few years last summer. He is a visiting professor at UND presently, and has served as an English teacher and educator in the African country of Mauritania. His stories make a person's toes curl. Most people in America would be flabbergasted if told about a country, now, in the year 2016, that still thoroughly objectifies people in slavery as the country Mauritania does.

No one cares.

"No one cares."

So true, those who criticize Israel's democracy as being less than perfect (just as their's isn't) don't give a shit about a country that actively supports slavery.
