Years ago when I first began submitting my images for publication, one of the agents representing my work would sometimes send me a note with the submission acknowledgment …
"Hey! Where's my Vertical … "
In those days I shot slide film (no digital cameras back then) and it was always easier whether a shot was taken with the camera hand-held, or, on a tripod, to shoot horizontally rather than flipping it 90 degrees right or left.
The result of course, were images mostly in "landscape/horizontal" rather than "portrait/vertical". And, because the captioning was hand-written on the slide mount, it was easier to simultaneously view the image and caption on a light table without flipping the slide … because picture and caption were in the same orientation.
After several "Hey! Where's my Vertical … " notes, I began to shoot pictures in both modes and send two views/two slides. Since both magazine and book covers are vertically oriented … images selected by publishers for COVERS were preferable … and paid a lot more than "interior" images of either orientation.
Yesterday I posted the vertical (square actually) version of the above image; if you missed it, go to the link under the image above -- when you get to the high resolution version, click on "NEXT" above and that will take you to the square variation.
I think you'll find that despite depicting the same scene, each variation gives a different sense or feeling.
Good advice.
Nice photo. Why does it make me think of "angel hair" spaghetti?

'Cause I couldn't pasta the opportunity to shoot it?
It looks like a parasitic vine called "Dodder".
I've gotten horizontal … in a manner of speaking.
Horizontal is my favourite position. LOL

Many STAND with you … sort of … metaphorically …
Thank Mac - I really needed this tonight. I checked out the vertical version and wow you're right, they look like two different pictures. I like them both but am leaning towards the vertical shot. Probably because it looks "lighter" and I needed lighter tonight. :o)
I needed lighter tonight. :o)

Glad to be accommodating, PJ.
I have to agree with you PJ. Perfect description!
