First of all, John, I want to thank you for being so multifaceted and not having your head stuck in American politics. Then on to make my choices that are difficult for me to zero in on because tastes change with age:
1. It's hard to think back that far, but I made most of my toys myself since my family had little money to spend on frivolities. I can only think of two things - one being a gun I made out of two pieces of wood nailed together with a trigger made from a nail, and the other was my orange crate scooter. Eventually as I got a little older I enjoyed a Meccano set and a Chemistry set, but what are the parameters for the age of a "kid"?
2. It sure as hell wasn't Latin, but I think Chemistry was my favourite because we paired up and did actual lab experiments.
3. Egg salad sandwich with mashed potatoes.
4. Strawberry and rhubarb pie with vanilla ice cream (Can only dream about it now).
5. Star Trek
6. Almost never watch TV shows now - can't understand the language. Only one English language station with whitewashed news and boring content.
7. Don't know what you mean by "guilty pleasure", but I have watched Casablanca more then any other movie. However, I don't feel guilty about that. Perhaps I feel guilty about watching "Dune" (original version) because it's been criticized so much, even by its own Director, David Lynch.
8. Morgan Freeman - I enjoy watching him and listening to his voice in any movie he has acted in, even bad movies. Before that it was Sean Connery - loved his movies since James Bond up until recently.
9. As a teenager I fell in love with Elizabeth Taylor, but because of her looks rather than her skill. I think Betty Davis through the years.
10. My tastes have been a moveable feast. John Grisham - perhaps because I'm familiar with his references. As a kid I loved Edward E. (Doc) Smith's space cowboy novels (Skylark and Lens series) but eventually graduated to more classical novelists such as Jane Austen and Charles Dickens, but now I prefer Grisham and Danial Silva.
11. Maserati Quadraporte
12. Disney World, Florida (Does that make me a kid at heart?)
13. Leonard Cohen. Previously, Frank Sinatra.
14. brown, because of its warmth
15. orchid - I'm fascinated by the shapes and colours of that genus of flower. Is that what makes it so valued and expensive?
I have reconsidered the "vacation" category. For an interesting vacation (taken with my kids when they were young) I thought Disney World was the epitome, whereas if what is meant is a restful vacation, nothing could beat time at my 4-season log waterfront home in the lakes district of Ontario.
My three year old Shih-Tzu, Molly, loves to get in the pool. She has a claw and bite resistant (canvas) float for herself and when it's hot in the summer time she'll often go in by herself or just step down to stand on the top step where she is mostly covered with water.
I changed my mind about the dream car. When I did an article about beautiful classic cars on Terry's group I said that my favourite car was a 1959 Jaguar Mark IX and I'm going to stick with that one - the Maserati is a little too sporty and not really classy enough. What I said then about the Jag was that it wasn't for neuveau riche, not even for old money, it was for royalty.
To me the car is gorgeous:
Those tables that drop down like in an airplane are solid polished wood. The leather seats smell delicious.
The dashboard and door trim are the same solid polished wood - no veneer or cheap materials used in this beauty.
Even though it's almost 60 years old - I would be proud to drive it.
Wonder of wonders, a radio that doesn't require a 20 page manual to know how to operate it.
I have always liked Doris Day, although I'm not sure she made any really good movies, and she had that goody two shoes image. She was always so poised, and pretty, and she was a very good singer, something a lot of people may not associate her with.
I always knew that if it was a Doris Day movie, she would do a good job, and it would be a good movie. I had a really hard time choosing a favorite actress... But she seems to top my list of warm fuzzies.
I have a lot of her songs! (on my computer) She was GREAT!
For me it's "The Searchers" In my opinion his greatest movie performance. Over 20 times I've watched it and it never loses it's appeal.
"Chisolm" "El Dorado" and "Red River" are favorites in the epic western genre. Every bit as good as "Little Big Man" "The Outlaw Josey Wales" and any other of many fine western tales.
He was a great actor, it's a shame that he was never truly recognized until later in his career.
I'm sorry to hear that. Through your efforts I was able to watch movies I've not had access to for years. Oh well, all good things must come to an end.
Meg actually made her directorial debut ( and played the female lead) last year in a movie titled "Ithaca" Not a smashing hit and it had Tom Hanks in a cameo role. (as her husband, probably for promotional purposes)
"Top Gun", "You Got Mail", "Sleepless in Seattle" and many others, all fine movie performances.
It cannot be stated enough, that this kind of discussion is a proverbial "breath of fresh air" -- and I say this as one who spends too damn much time on the political crap on the FP.

Natalie Wood was 25 years old when she made Sex And The Single Girl . I think, at that age, she was the most beautiful actress of all time.

Are you even awake or is the dog standing guard over a sleeping master?
It's conceivable that I was dozing. My dog loved to be in a boat. whenever I would go to my outboard he would jump in and stand at the prow.

Good list Buzz. I believe a "guilty pleasure" movie would be one that did not receive great reviews.
Then David Lynch's Dune would fit that bill.
I think so, lol.

I know it works for me.
You can never go wrong with John Wayne. I've seen most of his well known movies at least 3 or 4 times each. I've probably watched Rio Bravo 10 times.

Here's some Classic John Wayne for ya.....
Can you put that on a site other than YouTube that you used for classic films? (Still waiting to watch Pocketful of Miracles).
I don't have that website anymore Buzz, I've retired from video encoding.
I'm sorry to hear that. Through your efforts I was able to watch movies I've not had access to for years. Oh well, all good things must come to an end.
