A group of canoers discovered a disturbing case of animal cruelty in Marina del Rey.

As five canoers made their way along Mother's Beach, two of them spotted a shovel sticking out of the water near the shoreline.

When they approached the shovel, the canoers realized a dead dog was tied to it.

The dog appeared to have been tied to the shovel that was buried deep in the sand, and unable to get away, drowned as the tide came in.

The Los Angeles County Animal Control and the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department were investigating.

Officials said the dog had an identification tag.

If you have any information that can aid in their investigation, you're urged to call the sheriff's department at (310) 582-6000.

When they find the sick bastard who did this he needs to be staked down on the beach at low tide and then sell tickets for people to watch as the tide comes in! All proceeds to go to the ASPCA.

The dog had an identification tag. That does not mean the owner is the person who killed the dog because the owner would never leave the dog tagged unless he/she were mentally deranged, but at least it's a good lead.

I agree. A very good lead. I think the cops have a good chance of catching him and animal cruelty laws in California are just about the most hardcore and heavily enforced in the whole U.S.

It's called "Mother's Beach" because it's in the Marina, is quite shallow, has it's own lifeguard station and has virtually no waves, so mothers (and fathers) bring their little children there to play in the water. I can't imagine some poor parent trying to explain that if any of the children who are there everyday in the summer saw it.

Hopefully with the ID tag they can follow up and perhaps get ahold of the assholes that did this.

Cement shoes at high tide work for me.

Cement shoes and a walk off the deep end of the Santa Monica Pier works for me.

Are you trying to one-up LlanfairPG for the longest English language word? Well, Welsh is ALMOST English.

Lol Buzz...

...I am made up of mostly English, Irish, and Scottish Blood,,,so I may be actually using Welsh unconsciously and not even know it!

But I absolutely do know what I meant, and do indeed mean every word  of it. I stay away from child & animal abuse (especially dog) seeds usually, because I will be the first to admit that I have absolutely no objectivity. I would (and have!) gotten myself put into jail being too enthusiastic dealing with abusers. So one long-word describing  mypissedoffatittudeseemsappropriatesometimes. Thank you for you understanding.

:~)
