Readers of the UK’s Telegraph travel section recently voted for Israel as one of the world’s best countries to visit.
More than 75,000 readers voted in the 2015-16 Telegraph Travel Awards for the best destinations, airlines, tour operators and cruise lines worldwide. The Jewish state ranked 28th on the list of the 50 best hotspots, jumping eight places since last year’s survey.
“Security concerns do not seem to have undermined your enjoyment of Israel’s fascinating sights,” Telegraph Travel noted . “And it’s not surprising — whatever your political views, Jerusalem in particular is one of the world’s greatest historical destinations and is too often overlooked as a destination for a fascinating city break.”
Other countries on the list include Chile, Brazil, Burma and Japan. Telegraph Travel readers voted New Zealand their favorite country for the fourth year in a row, followed by the Maldives and South Africa. Rounding off the top 50 was France.
Audley took home the award for best tour operator and Cape Town was voted best city, while British Airways was named best airline.
Good for Israel. I'm not sure 28th place makes it "one of the top" destinations, but it does look like a good time to be had. And so much history. And 28th place out of 200 or so nations sounds pretty good.
I get accused so often of being anti-Israel (for no good reason), I wonder how this seed slipped by with no response.
You didn't compliment me when I published an article about Canadian Imams starting deradicalization clinics either, John.
I'm sorry I asked.
But stop referring to the self-serving definition of what constitutes anti-semitism. Under your definition, any criticism at all of Israel is anti-semitism.
Okay John, since you asked for it YET again, here is the definition with which I agree. I printed it big so perhaps you don’t need a magnifying glass to see it.

What is Anti-Semitism Relative to Israel?
EXAMPLES of the ways in which anti-Semitism manifests itself with regard to the state of Israel, taking into account the overall context could include:
DEMONIZE ISRAEL:
· Using the symbols and images associated with classic anti-Semitism to characterize Israel or Israelis
· Drawing comparisons of contemporary Israeli policy to that of the Nazis
· Blaming Israel for all inter-religious or political tensions
DOUBLE STANDARD FOR ISRAEL:
· Applying double standards by requiring of it a behavior not expected or demanded of any other democratic nation
· Multilateral organizations focusing on Israel only for peace or human rights investigations
DELEGITIMIZE ISRAEL:
· Denying the Jewish people their right to self-determination, and denying Israel the right to exist
However, criticism of Israel similar to that leveled against any other country cannot be regarded as anti-Semitic.
There are literally thousands of destinations to go to so coming in as 28 is a big deal. I would like to go there one day. All that history. I have done a lot of traveling... and I would like to do some more.. and that is on my list.
I'll meet you there.
There's a lot more to Israel than beach bunnies. I think I would have chosen other photos to promote travel there.
