They have proven to be an ecological disaster, but I wonder if, since they have been there for 80 years now, if removing them all might cause as much problem as it solves.

I will also have to admit that I have never heard of this animal before.

This was news to me as well, and in order to maintain the ecology I agree with their being eradicated.

It's illegal to keep them as pets in Sweden, Denmark and Norway but Ahlen says he has seen evidence that people in the UK do have them as pets.

"The thing if you have them as pets is that they will escape and then you will endanger your native fauna if you release them in England," he says.

"Both from Ireland and the UK, I've seen several cases where people have lost their pets and I'm quite sure that if you have not already, I think that you will have your first feral emerging population by reproduction of escaped pets."

This is the same way with the problem with Pythons in the Everglades in Florida. People got them as pets and they either became to big or escaped and now they are taking over the entire area. I believe they are far past the point of being able to be eradicated. I wonder if the same is true of this animal?

There are parts of the US which are being taken over by wild hogs . They cause some major damage when they overpopulate a region . And they are a lot faster moving than pythons ...
