Animals look like humans in these expressive pet portraits that show creatures in a new light
These emotive portraits show animals in a new light - displaying seemingly human feelings.
Belgian photographer Vincent Lagrange's project Human Animal seeks to capture such moments.
"Today most people photograph just people," he said. "But only a few photograph animals.
"I tried to photograph the animals as humans, depicting their emotion and human-like characteristics in a sombre way."
If you have ever felt a deep connection with your pet, it could be because you have noticed such fleeting moments yourself.
From domestic pets to wild animals, the character in the faces of these creatures make them look positively wise.
Vincent was inspired to shoot the series by his cat, Dwiezel.
And in the vein of the age-old adage about 'never work with animals or children', Vincent admitted that the most taxing task was getting the animals to sit still so he could snap the perfect shot.

Yes agifted photographer but some truly amazing subjects to work with as well.
Wow-- these are great pictures!
To me, most of these look lonely and sorrowful-- they look worried, as if the camera is going to steal their soul!
Thanks for publishing this!

Thanks for the feedback and your perspective on the state of mind of the "models"
As to the two in my first comment, I felt that they had a look of grim determination and indifference to the photographer.
Enjoyable photos RIO.
Thanks for the post.

I think that just about every heavyset old man with a mustache looks like him too.
