More of "RESTORE"

From my previous article …

As a restorer of old photographs, I can tell you that not all of those in need of restoration … can be brought "all the way back" so-to-speak, and some … "brought back," only just barely.

It's Here at the Link

Some photos require just a small amount of restoration; if you look closely, you'll see some yellowing in the sky area of Hamburg photo. I got most of it but what I allowed to remain were too close to other parts of the photo to mess with, that for fear of losing detail.

The original was black and white.

More to come

This is where my father in law's father lived, in 1903!  I'll be sure to show this one to my husband-- he will love it!  I do, too, BTW.

Neat picture!  Love the details!

I'm pretty sure I have other Hamburg, 1903 pictures … I'll prioritize those in posting.

the whole family will enjoy!!!  Thank you!

His grandfather fought in WWI, and then came to the US from Hamburg.  Hamburg is the disembarkation spot for my great-great grandparents in the 1850s...  Thank you!

May I share them with the family?

Second Hamburg picture posted … I don't know if the buildings are apartments or warehouses.

Hoping they are warehouses...  I would hate to live with a river on my back porch...

Fourth photo … how could we visit Hamburg without stopping in a pub for a cold one?

You'd be stopping for a warm one, not a cold one Mac...The Germans like their beer warm.

I do understand that; but back in the day, me and the boys would sometimes sit on the curb and drink six packs, soooooo … it would be like old times to take a warm one out on a cold night and … chill.

LOL, but I thought that we were in Hamburg, not South Philly.

I thought that we were in Hamburg, not South Philly.

I would speculate that sitting on a curb in Hamburg on a winter night would simulate the South Philly ambiance … 'course … no Joe Frazier or Mario Lanza (a.k.a. "Freddie") or Rocky (Sylvester and brother Frank) … none of the old Doo Wop "battle of the groups" on the corners …

On second thought …

Wow!!!  I love #3 and #4 as well!  I can't wait to show them to my husband tonight!

Thank you!  His grandfather could have seen it just like this!

Matthew says that the warehouses/tenements are guildhauses-- small businesses and living quarters.  I spelled it the way I think it should be spelled, not the right way, necessary.  He said that they were really popular in northern Germany.

Dowser,

A quick look at my database is showing 24 total pictures of Hamburg in 1903!

It would pain me somewhat to part with one of the original Magic Lantern slides which are obviously from 1903 … but … if you think your family would want one as a possession, I would go through the boxes of slides, find one of the cleanest examples, wrap it in endless bubble wrap and mail it to you.

I think the more I'd hate to give one up, the more pleasure it would give me to have it live with you and your family … a joyous paradox!

Let me know.

No, I'm certainly not asking you to give me one of your dear slides!  They will be in better hands with you!  And, right now, I am inundated with pictures and photographs of things I can't find, or relocate...  It's a sad thing to have all this stuff and not be able to get to it, or know how to sort it out.  I'm utterly overwhelmed...

OK … then I will continue to post the restorations.

I certainly understand being overwhelmed with family-members' possessions.

I will; in the morning I'm leaving for a day or two in the woods where my internet connection is hit-or-miss. But by Sunday night I should resume the Hamburg pix (and others as well).
