"A Miss is as Good as a Mile"

  1. "A miss is as good as a mile."

The fact of failure or escape is not affected by the narrowness of the margin.

A part of me wishes I did not get this shot earlier today; and while it bodes well regarding the chance for a completely successful such image … this one's a heartbreaker.

So close … but still "no cigar".

Another couple of inches … may as well have been a mile.

Fortunately, I got several good shots while I was out there earlier today.

It must have been flap of those wings moving the camera. Still a very detailed & beautiful shot. Thanks for sharing it...

Cigar or no cigar, it's a great photo.

Tomorrow is another day … I will post at least one or two other shots from today.

I've determined that butterflies in flight have to be one of the hardest things to zero in on, so you didn't do as badly as you said. It's like trying to focus on a bouncing ball.  Maybe try a little less telephoto and more reliance on cropping to give more leeway next time.

Just posted another "almost there" shot.

If it's not perfect in every respect … for me, the job isn't finished.

More shots to come.

Not perfect? Damned close if it isn't.

Posted a third picture … no butterfly, but near-perfect!

More to come.

Keep 'em coming Mac!  I love the butterflies!!  The fly looks like it's coming in for a landing...very cool!
