Morning walk through Chongqing Normal U campus
Morning walk through Chongqing Normal U campus
It was a hot morning, and a good thing we walked for about an hour and a half early because this afternoon it's raining. It seems that every time we go back to where we've walked before, there are always new things to be seen - new flowers, new scenery, new people, etc
1. The birds here are so timid it's really hard to get a photo of them, but I caught this one sitting on the ground, although I had to use the most telephoto and a lot of cropping to show it.
2. The students are heading across the water-lily pond for their next class. Many girls use umbrellas on a sunny day to prevent darkening their skin. You wouldn't believe the array of skin whiteners for sale in the stores. Hardly any under arm deoderant (Chinese people don't seem to sweat as much) but rows and rows of skin whiteners.
3. It's the first time I've seen this flower.
4. ...and this one.
5. Finding a good hiding place to study.
6. Most of the butterflies I've seen here are white.
7. The bamboo is usually seen in clumps like this.
8. I thought this was a little strange.
9. There are so many kinds of flowering trees.
10.
11. I've heard of drinks with a "twist", but around here there are lots of trees with a twist.
12. Two HUGE pools for the students to cool off in.
I meant to do my Luoyang retrospective before this one, but maybe it will be my next photo essay.
Every day is a new adventure. I feel like Bilbo Baggins.
Great photos Buzz....Enjoyed them all.
Just one question the photos were taken at Normal University. Is their a Un-normal University?
Inquiring minds want to know.
Actually, "abnormal" would be the word, rather than un-normal.
Normal School (or College, or University) is a shool that trains students to be teachers.
According to Dictionary.com: "The term normal school is an unfortunate misnomer, and its general adoption has led to much confusion of ideas."
I don't know why they call them "Normal (school, college, universtiy). Apparently the term originated in France.
Buzz, I call them the way I see them...it's Un-normal to me...
Murray State University, where I went, and where my son will attend, was called the Murray Normal School-- and was where they trained people to be teachers. When it became part of the state university system, I want to say in the early 1950s, they changed the name.
I love these pictures! The blooming bush looks like a Crepe Myrtle to me-- I'm sure it's not, they probably don't have those in China, but they smell so delicately, like sweet powder. I love the tree, and that is one beautiful campus! What a great place to go to school!
Dear Friend Buzz: Great images.
As a graduate of Whatzzamattah U. , and an Alumni of Kung Fu U. I hve no problems with the French derivation of the College for Teachers.

No, I don't, but I have enjoyed your pictures! It just took me a while to find it... Not your fault!
