Bonus Trip to the Adirondacks!
So, I'm at my mom's for Thanksgiving (4 day weekend) and decided to go do a project t the Lake House that was bothering me. additionally, there was 'stuff' that needed to go back up, so off to the lake I went. The project, which I failed to accomplish was, since the lake level had been dropped down-they always do this by November 15th.......some of the paint form our docks came off and was sitting on the lake bed, within plain site. I was going to rake it all up and bag it.......but the November 15th thing? Hasn't really happened, the lake is only down a few inches........so I wasn't able to 'dp my thing'. Instead, I walked some and took pictures instead......
Was really hoping to knock this project off my list......next time I'm there it'll probably be covered with snow or the water will be back up. Hope you enjoy the photos.
I love seeing photos of lakeside homes, it brings back memories of the best times of my life. Your 6th photo (the road into the cottage) looks just like mine did, only mine was a little hillier. We named our place "Loon Hollow" (double meaning - Loons on the lake and loonies living in the log chalet). Does the breakwater in the 7th photo indicate where the water level used to be?
No, actually that's a retaining wall, by the lower parking area, I was standing in the road when I took that picture. My parents named the place 'Dacha'. The 14th picture is taken form the beachhead deck.
Oh, I see. I thought because of the slope downward it was towards the water.
May have been once, but I believe the actual formation is most likely glacial.
I truly enjoyed them.
I'm glad you did, my special place, pretty quiet as there's only a few year round residents.......
Very nice Gary. Yep, I'm still around. Almost caught up with unpleasant things that needed to be dealt with. Still have one of the little tent sheds to put up to hold things that are in the garage but are not cars. Trying to get it up before the snow comes.
Better do it soon! Seems like you are getting weather already! DO they hold up to snow?
We've been getting some but no snow to speak of yet. Wanted to get it in before the ground freezes though. I'll post a picture later. It can handle snow as long as we don't get too much all at once. Once the snow stops, you have to go out with a broom and push it off. Wind is what I was worried about, so I put it in a pretty sheltered area with the house on one side (where the prevailing winds come from) and the garage on the other.
Great photos Spike, always enjoy looking at the projects you didn't finish. It gives me hope...
I could've done it, but the couple feet of water might have made things go slower.....and bit colder.....
The Adirondacks is beautiful country. Thanks for the pics, Spikegary!
My pleasure, the Lake House is my go to place, on every level.
Rustic, clean, wild, homey, inviting … it's all good!
Thank you......I wonder if I was to do a comparison from spring - fall, how it would play here? There is one common pic in all, the mountain across the lake. Thoughts?
Showing the place during all four seasons should go quite well Gary. I'd bet that, if you posted an article inviting everyone to post their favorite place during each season, you'd get a great response. Not just from the people who are into photography either. Everyone able to push the button on a camera would like the idea.
Beautiful! Something about the beauty of nature that can make us feel humble.
Just arrived here and glad I didn't miss it Gary. If I could live in a place like that I would love it. It's not only beautiful, but it just makes you feel good looking at your photos.
I think about finding a way to retire there someday. Cold during the winter, but I don't mind that too much.
