What Are the Best Movies About U.S. Politics?
The Best Films About American Bureaucracy

Politics contains all the elements of great drama (and comedy): high stakes competition, back room deal making, idealism clashing with corruption and cynicism, ambition, greed, power…well you get the idea. It's no surprise that politics has been a favorite subject for movies, with a multitude to choose from. This list leaves out political biographies, documentaries and foreign films, and sticks to films about the American political process. It was still a big field to choose from, but here are the ones we'd vote for.

Since politics and religion are what's most important to most of the NT membership, I decided to post this under the Entertainment Forum rather than on a special interest group (Classic Cinema) since hardly anyone ever bothers with them.
There are many more movies about American politics, and the list was the choice of its author, but I could have added a lot more to it. However, do you have a favourite movie about American politics, and if so, what is it and why do you favour it?
I think my favourite movie about American politics has to be Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, because it's so unusual - it's about an honest politician.
I would say The Best Man. Gore Vidal was a great writer.
Mr. Smith Goes To Washington is great too though.
The Spielberg movie Lincoln was mainly about politics, that would have to rank very high also.
Wag The Dog.
Thanks for your response John. I'm thankful that there are at least some NT members like yourself whose interests are varied.
When I decided to post this article, I was trying hard to find movies that would interest most of the members who post on the Front Page, for example about celebrities and politicians who molest women. I knew there was one about the movie industry but I can't think of its name. I also considered posting an article about movies about atheism, but the only one I knew about was "Inherit the Wind".
