Even though it was cold and fairly unpleasant, it was good to get out for a walk through the next door Chongqing Normal School campus, where I could at least take a few photos.
Damned if I know, but there are a lot of them with twisting branches around the trunk like that, and some have plaques attached to them that identify them in Chinese but also in English the scientific (Greek? Latin?) name. Next time I see one I'll write down the name and let you know (if I remember to take a pen with me).
I've got the answer now. Here are a couple of photos I took of a similar tree, along with the plaque in front of it:
So I looked up Ficus Virens Aiton on the internet where I got this photo (which is similar to the one I took that you asked about) and this description:
Ficus virens is a plant of the genus Ficus found in India, southeast Asia, through Malaysia and into Northern Australia. Its common name is white fig ; it is locally known as pilkhan and in the Kunwinjku language it is called an-borndi. Like many figs, its fruits are edible. One of the most famous specimens of this tree is the Curtain Fig Tree of the Atherton Tableland, near Cairns, a popular tourist attraction.
Tomorrow should be sunny.
What type of tree is that Buzz?

It really is an interesting looking tree. When you see the plaque the next time, commit it to memory.
Kavika trying to commit his name to memory..LOL
LOL. Commit it to memory? I can remember things from when I was 3 and 4 years old, but I can't remember what I did 10 minutes ago.
