Blue sky, puffy white clouds, pure white snow blanketing the ground and creek running by and starting to ice-up - a silent wilderness in the city. Almost too much to wish for.
What part of Philly is this? I have an aunt (she married my uncle) who lived in a very lovely part of Philly and lived right across the street from a wooded area that had a creek (crick) running thru it. My brother and I would go play in that crick and try and catch cray fish
I'm glad I grew up in PA where there were so many cricks to play in. When I was between 3 and 10 we lived in Nottingham, PA in a little valley not far from the Octarara. We had a crick that ran close to the house and after it rained was the best time to play in it. When we lived in Tioga County, we dammed the crick under a waterfall. We dammed it so well that the crick ran dry down where we brought the cows in for milking. Dad couldn't figure out why the crick was running dry so he started walking up the crick and found our dam. He destroyed it but was impressed by our dam making skills. Told us we could put the beavers to shame
Route 6 bisects Route 15 which is the heart of Mansfield. We had a dairy farm about 4-5 miles outside of town. I went to 5th - 7th grade there. It was a good school considering it was rural. The college there helped a lot
two of my closest friends have a beatifu;l "Cabin" there right off 903 backed up to the game lands near the gorge
Been swimming in Beltzville , that we overlook from Penns Peak
and like the Jonas Hotel on the other side
Carbon County, is that where Elk mtn is, as I have a buddy who owns a bar near there The Candlelight Inn, he and another buddy used to own The Beacon Inn
Correct. Not 4 … 2 houses (and blessed to have had such careers and investments/pension/SS … to have those); I tossed in Jim Thorpe, etc. to give an idea of where my small house in the Poconos is located … for the record … a house here in Philly (lived here my whole life), and the little one in the Poconos.

Right near 903 in Albrightsville … and wher the Lehigh River is accessible in the Gorge, the Smallmouth fishing at times, is just great

Beltzville can be a dangerous lake when the idiots with the big boat engines are at the speed limit (or higher) … I have a spot where I will fly fish Beltsville … with a light outfit, I'm looking at the backing on my reel if I hook a Musky or Big Striper!
and like the Jonas Hotel on the other side
Jonas Creek is hard to access … but the Wild Brook Trout population saved it from commercial zoning some years back; thank God some life on earth is still sacred!

Don't think so … Elk County maybe.
SO you have 4 house ...? good for you
No … thankful as hell to have two with no mortgages.
my grandmother lived on Decatur near Crispin and when I was a kid I would explore Penny pack park, and when a teen, take my van to 'little City' to 'park' and then consulting work would take me through out Philly and the tri state area
yes, people don't realize some of the beautiful streams and parks that weave through Philadelphia.
.
back to Pocono's , are you near 541 or closer to 209
I have friends in Indian Mtn Lakes and Robin Hood lakes as well, or are you closer to the Platz side of the lake?

That's the "FAR" Northeast … Philly will surprise most outsiders … for its beauty and it's not so beautiful aspects.

Rt. 534 between 209 and 903.
I have friends in Indian Mtn Lakes and Robin Hood lakes as well, or are you closer to the Platz side of the lake?
North of Indian Mountain by just a couple of miles.
It’s not anything fancy ... but it’s the last road at the slope of a tree-covered mountain and there are black bears and rattlesnakes and other critters ... I love it.
Won’t likely get back up there until March and will take pictures then.
Some property owners run cables across the stream and hang "no trespassing" signs on them, and, unless the water is legally designated as a "Navigable River," the bastards get away with it!
God makes the stream and the property owners call the tune.
To be fair, litterbugs and other jerks more-or-less give property owners a valid rationale.
BTW, I was hoping for an all-Pennsylvania Super Bowl this year … Steelers vs. Eagles … now I'll be happy with Eagles vs. Patriots or Jaguars … but first, we have to get by the Vikings and that won't be easy.

My wife said the same thing. That would have been one hell of a game. I almost broke my TV watching that Steelers / Jaguars game. Pittsburgh already started cleaning house.
I'm all for any team that goes against New England.
A civil, quiet place.
I like civil, quiet places....
So do I.
That is a gorgeous photo.

Beautiful A.Mac !
Very nice! Someday I'll have to talk you into giving me a photo editing class. lol.
It will be my pleasure.
Beatiful, Amac.

it looks like either Poquesing or Pennypack creek to me, but Philly has many parks and creeks
The neighborhood I'm thinking of starts with an E I think. I could be wrong. This was many, many moons ago
Good One! It's Pennypack Creek off of Winchester Rd.!
How about East Falls and Wissahickon Creek?
Now I'm rethinking...it might have been an "n"
Near Little City, or was it City of Lights off Rhawn ?
How about Neshaminy?
Wow! "Little City!" Used to go "parking" there!
yea right !
.
as a kid, bathed in the brown Neshaminy
.
and should have perished there on a few ill advised flooded canoe missions, but hey
had a blast
grew up in Lower NE
Been to all those creeks and more but Tookany Creek was our playground.........
Tookany Creek was our playground..
I prefer the Parkway

Believe I was very close to here Rattle Snake hunting a few months ago off rt 6
beautiful area

We drove through that intersection
my buddy's family has 40 acres right on Rt 6
we were a few miles from Pennsylvania Grand Canyon
Beautiful area
So your friend's land is west of town.
Every time a relative came to visit we always went to the Grand Canyon. I loved it there.
Tioga County and the northern counties are still wild and untamed IMO
as were we that weekend
but
yes, the land as well
I might have a photo from Wellsboro … PAs Grand Canyon … if I locate it, I'll post it.
Nothing much to say or photography RE: Tookany Creek … but the Parkway and the Schuykill River by the Art Museum … all kinds of fish!
I would love to see it. I need to take a road trip next fall
I do see Timber Rattlesnakes in my part of the Poconos … I think Massasaguas are more common further north.
would be ?
if you don't mind my inquiry
Carbon County, Jim Thorpe, Beltzville … have a small house there.
spent a lot of time in Jim Thorpe

reading is fundamental so you have 2 houses one in the North east and your Pocono residence ?

excellent
Thank-you, Amac!
My pleasure!
How about a photo of the house in the Poconos?
It’s not anything fancy ... but it’s the last road at the slope of a tree-covered mountain and there are black bears and rattlesnakes and other critters ... I love it.
Won’t likely get back up there until March and will take pictures then.
?
it's awesome up there in the winter
When the lakes and streams freeze over, I can’t fish. When I was younger, I would ice fish ... but don’t any more.
A few years ago, a record yellow perch was caught through the ice at Beltzville. I do get up to take snow scenes occasionally ... I will post some.
The Neshaminy in it's upper reaches is a whole different scene … but difficult to access as much of it runs through private property.
once we put canoe in, we had an all access pass

Great photo. I miss that kind of winter scenery from the Pittsburgh area I grew up in.
Well then, I'll post more!

Which Jaguars will show up this week?
Can Philly out defense the Vikings?
Sure hope so.
Eagles fans will be silent while the Eagles offense lines up at scrimmage … and create deafening roars when the Vikings are on offense.
Otherwise, it should be a nail-biter.
Hope you don’t mind me sharing this on your seed. A little more winter from my part of PA.
Happy to have your contribution to the thread!
Thank you. I always like looking at your pictures.
My dogs ruined the pristine look by running all around in the snow. They like it much more than I do.
very nice
