While technically, a "PORTRAIT" is …a painting, drawing, photograph, or engraving of a person, especially one depicting only the face or head and shoulders, animal portraits … even in full length … are an interesting genre in that, unlike portraits of people, viewers don't need to personally know the "sitters" to enjoy them.
A lot of what I do is the result of years of observing bird behavior and body language, much of which is possible to anticipate … and thus photograph from a position of readiness.

Why shouldn't animals and birds have "portraits"? What else would they be called? Depictions? Images? Representations?
How much time does it take - just waiting - to get "portraits" like these? I don't know if I'd have the patience.

Love the Cardinal.....We have a large number of Cardinals around my house.
Excellent portraits. My daughter is the artist in the family, I can barely do stick figures.
These are great! I keep trying to and sometime get a chickadee or two to hold still long enough. lol
Out of curiosity, A.Mac, when you post photos of Blue Jays, does a bit of your thoughts go back to something not so pleasant for a Philadelphian?
Hey I thought we were going to drop that Bluejay Phillies stuff, lol,
after all the Eagles won the Superbowl this year
and Villanova won the college National Championship last night
so naturally everyone in Philly is hoping the 76ers and Phillies can follow suit.
:-))
Working through the pain.
