The LaPierre Vision

DickAndJane.jpg

Good Morning Boys and Girls, I’m your teacher and you should call me Mrs. White.

How are you today, Boys and Girls?

Are you afraid?

You should be afraid!

Do you know why you should be afraid?

There are some bad men who want to shoot you with their assault rifles.

But you don’t need to worry… no you don’t!

Do you know why you don’t need to worry?

Because I have this…

Mrs. White pulls her Glock out of the holster strapped underneath her sweater… waves it about…  ]

And do you know what I will do if one of those bad men comes to our classroom?

I’ll blow his Fu… uh… I’ll… uh… make him go away…

Now Boys and Girls, let’s open our reading books.

We are going to read about Dick and Jane and their visit to the assault rifle store.

Hi Newstalkers, Long time no see... I just thought I'd add my thoughts on the absurdity of living in a fearful armed society...

[ Mal wags to his NT friends... wanders off... ]

Hi Gary,

My main "fear" is that I will have to live in an angry, fearful, armed country that is at war with itself.

Glad to see a "satire" tag on this article, because it's a classroom conversation that would never happen between teachers and students in US schools.  Laugh

I sure as hell hope that's the case.

A much happier ending than the story of the sitting ducks with no way to protect themselves.

Hi Perrie, It's good to see you too!

I am well... Just got my 1 year checkup... with an all clear...

Getting a little gray on the muzzle, so to speak... Joints a little creaky (contemplating a knee replacement)... But all things considered, I'm doing pretty well.

I have a lot of good memories with you...

I hope all is well with you!!!

Iver Johnson guns were used in the assassinations of both Robert F. Kennedy and president William F. McKinley.

.

More than 100 years now & same divide, same arguments from each side.

Oh well, at least MalamuteMan's back and that's always a good thing.

Hi ArkansasHermit,

Thanks for welcoming me back... I come and go...

To be clear... This article spawned out of hearing about the idea of routinely arming teachers. While I have no interest in owning a gun myself, I understand that other people do want them and have a right to have them. That's fine for others... but not for me. I don't much want to live in a society where everyone is armed in order to deal with their fears of what others may do. And the idea of turning elementary schools into armed fortresses would fundamentally ruin the atmosphere I would want to create for children.

Thanks for engaging with civility!

Cheers,
Mal
