Since photos of trains are appropriate, here is another train for Levi. I took this photo of a diorama in the Three Gorges Museum in Chongqing:
And, about 4 decades ago I took this photo in the city where I was born and grew up, and used to walk to the hillside behind the museum there to watch those trains when I was a little kid.
What the heck, I can't catch any of them now. Once Levi left the tricycle behind and went onto two wheels, I had to get a bike of my own just to keep up. On the positive side, my general health is getting better because of the exercise. Those grandkids are going to keep me alive and healthy a lot longer (if a heart attack doesn't get me first).
Oh, also, Isabell the (girl in the pink dress in my avatar) just turned 10 today. Since it's her and her brother's week at their mother's, she had a party at her other grandma's house. Next week she'll have one here.
I'm hooked on Impossible Engineering: Extreme Railroads on the Science Channel. They don't have just major feats of engineering of the railroads, they have some cool trains and train engines on there as well.
In the mid 8o's we were one of Southern Pacific RR biggest customers. I took a trip on their cargo train from LA to Portland Oregon, switched with the UP and on into Seattle.
Riding and sleeping in the Executive cars was quite the experience. The best of food, cigar, fine china and the best of drinks.
It is a shame trains are not used more for transportation. Even here they have been trying to bring it back yet it receives opposition or lack of funding.
Where I am it is located between Mobile and New Orleans. It would be easy to hop a train and go to one of those cities.
I think rural people have become accustomed to the perceived security of their own vehicle, where as people in larger cities have learned to get around without.

Yes it is Ender. Traveling on a well run railroad can be a great pleasure. Two reasons why there is opposition. First, most travel is business related or on a SHORT vacation. To a businessman, time is money. To someone on a short vacation, travel time is a waste. To either group, depending on the distance covered, airplanes or cars are faster. Second, AMTRAK is not a well run railroad.
An example of my thinking, Where I am I can drive to New Orleans in about One and a half hours. I still have to worry about driving myself around, looking for parking (You can't find a place in NO that does not want to charge at least ten bucks for parking), gas up etc. If it was just a day trip it just seems it would be easier to jump on a train.
Here (even though it is another state) people root for the Saints football team. Many people drive over to the games. People could get together and take a train car over.
You are correct though, I guess it is convenience and doing it on ones own time.
Garry Moore (January 31, 1915 – November 28, 1993) was an American entertainer, comedic personality , game show host, and humorist best known for his work in television. He began a long career with the CBS network on radio in the 1940s and was a television host on several variety and game shows from the 1950s through the 1970s.
After dropping out of high school, Moore found success as a radio host and then moved on to the television industry. He was host to several daytime and prime time programs titled The Garry Moore Show , and the game shows I've Got a Secret and To Tell the Truth . He was instrumental in furthering the career of comedic actress Carol Burnett . He became known for his bow ties and his crew cut fashion [2] early in his career.
My lone remaining Mustang. One of the "ugly" Foxbody cars that strike terror in the hearts competitors. Sits lonely in the garage these days. Motor and trans loaned out to a friend . Not my garage. Front end sits high as the engine and trans are out.
Small block Ford nick named Rat Killer. FYI, big block Chevs are called Rat Motors.
...and his very nice Cyclone Spoilers. They are both SCJs. The orange is a 429 and close to concourse. The blue is a 540 and no where near concourse. But runs 10s street legal on street tyres and pump fuel.
First professional race car to have my engine influence. Multi time ANDRA national Pro Stock Champion. Can honestly say I got them 100hp above their previous.
Many more to come!
Levi said to say thank you.
For all you folks out there who may not have met him, this is Levi
A very cool five year old who loves trains.
Hi Levi,
I'm a train loved as well. Maybe we can jump some trains together. Let me know when your ready. Don't worry about gramps he'll never catch us...

Iconic photos of museum pieces.

A very nice two day trip.
This sounds like a time when travel was much more than moving people like sardines in a container, like these days.
When my daughter was a gymnast, we had annual trips to Seaworld and Disney World for mainly performances.
One year we took the auto train. It was fun, but not luxury.
I have often thought of travel on one the the trans-pacific Pan_Am Clippers. Dream land.

True on all aspects.

Taking a break from race cars. How about a "barn find" of the century?
Creation of George Barris.
What a find dave....
The photo taken by the lake sure looks like Lake Mead in Nevada.
You nailed it Kavika.
The first photo was a result of Barris towing his friends car after an engine failure and collision with a hay truck.
Barris took lemons and made lemonade.
It is a '53 Lincoln Capri.
An amazing car and the boat together are perfect...Geo Barris was a genius.
I have more pictures and additional background info as this is a story I came across months ago.
The first photo at Lake Mead is my favorite of the bunch.
Had to smile at the reel to reel tape player.
What a find though.
I liked that too and the old telephone hand set.
The car had a lot of features that have only recently been put into practice.
What a gorgeous convertible. As well, I believe the boat being towed is a rare find - a Chris Craft Cobra.
I love that picture. A moment in time.

Otherwise … many thanks for the post dave!
Thanks for the history. I remember Gary Moore on tv many years ago. Nice to see it encapsulated.
hmmm? Alright I'll throw some more race cars in.
I didn't show mine or the ones with my engines.
Plus a cherry Torino and a couple nice Cyclone Spoilers to follow.
This car held my very first 7 second motor. A 6.9 litre RDI alloy Windsor small block with Yates C3H heads.
Favorite picture after it was renumbered:
Funny that autos seemed to go from generic to style and now we seem to be back to generic.
I miss the styling of early, mid century cars.

This is a trophy winning 1970 Torino GT 351C Toploader car. I cropped the image to hide my friends house.

Johnny Miller - close look at the attitude of the front wheels vs rear wheels shows a little counter steer there. Not on cruise control.
