Miami Vice is an American television crime drama series created by Anthony Yerkovich and executive produced by Michael Mann for NBC. The series starred Don Johnson as James "Sonny" Crockett and Philip Michael Thomas as Ricardo "Rico" Tubbs, two Metro-Dade Police Department detectives working undercover in Miami.
The series ran for five seasons on NBC from 1984 to 1989. The USA Network began airing reruns in 1988, and broadcast an originally unaired episode during its syndication run of the series on January 25, 1990.
Unlike standard police procedurals, the show drew heavily upon 1980s New Wave culture and music. The show became noted for its integration of music and visual effects. It has been called one of the "Top 50 TV Shows". People magazine stated that Miami Vice was the "first show to look really new and different since color TV was invented". [1]

Miami Vice is noted for its innovative use of stereo broadcast music, particularly countless pop and rock hits of the 1980s and the distinctive, synthesized instrumental music of Jan Hammer. While other television shows used made-for-TV music, Miami Vice would spend $10,000 or more per episode to buy the rights to original recordings. [7] Getting a song played on Miami Vice was a boost to record labels and artists. [22] In fact, some newspapers, such as USA Today , would let readers know the songs that would be featured each week. I never was a fan of 80s pop until about 2010. Not that I’m a big fan now, but there are some cover bands in my area that do only 80s songs, and they play at events and wine festivals that we attend several times a year. I’ve finally grown into 80s music. Now I’m that guy that I used to make fun of, singing along loudly and gettin my groove on. Invariably they will close with Don’t Stop Believing, which ensures that I will go home hoarse and sore.
Gloria Estefan (born Gloria María Milagrosa Fajardo; September 1, 1957) ... In 2015, she received the Presidential Medal of Freedom for her contributions to American music and received the Kennedy Center Honors in December 2017 for her contributions to American Culture Life.
LOL...I can totally top that story! I was such a fan of Billy Joel by the time my son was born (1985) that we named him mostly after his grandfather, Bill (aka Pappa), but had trouble with the middle name. Wanna guess what his name is? lol
Ok, my second son was born when Brandon Lee was making a name for himself in movies, not only was I a fan of his but, my martial arts instructor had trained at Bruce Lee's Dojo in California and, knew the Lee family. Want to guess what my sons name is?

Only because my daughter liked it. I thought the music of that era was coarse and empty, sorry.
Looking back at a few of her videos, I just realized how outstanding Gloria Estefan was within that latin pop/dance genre. She really was great.

I can't figure out to post a video! Three guesses what my fav 80s video is!
Did I get it?
Sure did! I think JR beat you to it though but...I asked him for help! You get points for getting it on your own!
I ran that song into the ground when it came out, my friends finally asked me to stop playing it, in fact one of them took the recording away from me.
