Racism And "Fear Of A Brown/Black Planet" Is The "Elephant In The Room" Of The Border Issue
The Europeans came to a red and brown world in 1492 and over the course of 500+ years have certainly changed the racial makeup of much of the continent. But it's not a "white" domain, never was and never will be. And never should be.

There is an unsettling current that runs through much of the objection to immigration from south of the border. This current is mostly unspoken and somewhat in the background, but nonetheless it is there plainly for those who are willing to see.

President Trump made a tweet last night , which a reporter then retweeted with an additional piece of information

From a Pat Buchanan column that is being hosted on the website VDare

The Trump portrait of an unsustainable Border Crisis is dead on. “In the last two years, ICE officers made 266,000 arrests of aliens with Criminal Records, including those charged or convicted of 100,000 assaults, 30,000 sex crimes & 4000 violent killings.” America’s Southern....

Leaving aside Trump's proclivity for not knowing what he is doing, which leads him to repeat material from questionable sources, this tweet points to the real issue.

V Dare is a quasi racist site, well known for years as being a mouth piece of white nationalism and whispered white supremacy. A child named Virginia Dare is accepted as the first white child born in America in the early 1600's at the "lost colony of Roanoke".

"In the 1890s some white supremacy organizations adopted her. Lawler writes, “Roanoke Island emerged as a pilgrimage site for Anglo-Americans seeking to reaffirm their racial dominance at the annual celebration of Virginia Dare’s birth.”"   http://www.reflector.com/Look/2019/01/06/What-happened-to-Virginia-Dare.html

My understanding is that V Dare may fall under a Newstalkers rule that prohibits links to white supremacist sites, so if you want to see V Dare you will have to google it.  I looked there for Buchanan's article that Trump retweeted and it is there , along with articles that defend the racist comments of Rep. Steve King, that defend James Watson, a famous scientist who recently lost academic honors because he insists on repeating racist opinions about the IQ of blacks, and an article about a municipal corruption case in the Los Angeles city government which trumpets that all the accused are racial minorities.

V Dare is run by a man named Peter Brimelow

We can see the basis of a problem in resolving the "border crisis."  Democrats believe, with some justification, that much of the white objection to brown immigration, which would be all of the immigration from the south, is based on a desire to preserve the US as a "white" country. On the fringe, such as the alt-right and neo-Nazis, this is spoken of very openly. People like Steve King are less openly strident about white nationalism, mostly because King is seemingly low IQ and unable to speak concisely. V Dare presents their own racism as a desire to prevent "diversity" on the belief that it is bad for a society.

It is not an accident that V Dare and the like have article after article about illegal immigration. The people who run the site are white supremacists. They call it defending and promoting the legitimate interests of white people. One of those interests is to maintain the US as a white nation.

The Democrats know this, and is surely one of the reasons they oppose harsh immigration restriction. Is it morally sustainable to oppose immigration on a racial basis?

The Europeans came to a red and brown world in 1492 and over the course of 500+ years have certainly changed the racial makeup of much of the continent. But it's not a "white" domain, never was and never will be. And never should be.

Notice that all this hoo- ha about illegal immigration from the south only began after Barack Obama became president. But illegal immigration from the south was HIGHER before Obama came along.  It's not a coincidence folks. The ascendancy of a non white to the highest US office triggered a primitive fear in some American whites, fear of a non white planet, a fear that is playing out in the news headlines every day.

Yes, America should admit people to this country on an orderly basis, and entrance from the south should be regulated as much as possible, but Trump and his ilk are appealing to racist urges, and it is destructive to our country.

To those of us living on the border, it actually began long before Barak Obama became president. It was just not publicized as much and those not living down here just did not care much.

Seems like they would all be hurting NOW because of the drop in illegal alien entries the Democrats have been crowing about, or severely hurt when the Deporter-in-Chief was in office.

Maybe but, I doubt it. You would see an increase, but the end result would be worth it.

$30 may be a bit much, but restaurants especially would run into huge problems.  The standing joke here is "In Dallas, no matter what kind of food you're eating, you're in a Mexican restaurant", and a glimpse into the kitchen explains why.

Now........ if you have a bunch of crazy liberals running your city and paying someone $15 an hour you might get to a $30 taco.

It's a matter of labor being short, supply tightening, and pricing increasing accordingly.

fast food joints in my area have been posting starting hourly wages on their marquees for almost 2 years where I live. flipping burgers is going for $11.50 - $13.50 per hour plus benefits now. over $20.00 per hour in the ski towns, if you don't mind sharing your weed with a dozen room mates.

False!  The problem of the illegal flow of immigration over the southern border was obviously an issue going back to the 80's when Ronald Reagan was forced to address it. In 1986 the Immigration and Control Act was passed because of that very problem. Amnesty was granted with border security to follow, but the border never was secured. Every President since has grappled with it.

The ascendancy of a non white to the highest US office triggered a primitive fear in some American whites, fear of a non white planet, a fear that is playing out in the news headlines every day.

Really? Then why did so many whites vote for him, twice?

I have one more question for you, John. During last years natural disaster in Puerto Rico, many Puerto Ricans fled their home island and settled into central Florida. How do you feel about that?

What's Really Happening at the Border?
Ward, Joe; Singhvi, Anjali. New York Times

President Trump has frequently called the situation at the southern border with Mexico a crisis and insists that building his long-promised wall will fix it. Here is what the data says about immigrants and the border.

In 2017, arrests for illegally crossing the border were at their lowest point since 1971. Undetected illegal border crossings have dropped at an even faster rate, according to estimates by the Department of Homeland Security.

A record number of families have tried to cross the border in recent months, overwhelming officials at the border and crating a new kind of humanitarian crisis.

The Drug Enforcement Administration says that heroin, cocaine and methamphetamoine are primarily brought into the United States in vehicles entering through official border crossings.

It is difficult to assess claims that illegal immigration leads to more crime because few law enforcement agencies release data that includes immigration status. Texas is the only state that does. The Cato Institute, a libertarian research center, analyzed the Texas data for 2015 and found that the rate of crime among undocumented immigrants was generally lower than among native-born Americans.

This is a more complete version of the story than the one that appeared in print.

Illegal Immigration Is Near a 50-Year Low ...; ... But Families Are Coming in Record Numbers; Most Drugs Are Seized at Ports of Entry, Not Along the Open Border; Studies Have Found No Link Between Immigration and Crime (Sources: U.S. Customs and Border Protection; Cato Institute)

Racism And "Fear Of A Brown/Black Planet" Is The "Elephant In The Room" Of The Border Issue

Bullshit.

The real elephant in the room is the left attempts to characterize such a clear cut border security issue, as racism.   The attempt is almost childlike in its naivete and ignorance.   And all to simply pander for a few more votes.

How sad!

The real elephant in the room is the left attempts to characterize such a clear cut border security issue, as racism.

The fact that 70% of the illegal immigrants in the US get here by overstaying visas, and the country the majority of the overstays come from is Canada, not Mexico, yet all the anger, angst and talk of a wall is on the southern border, that seems to indicate race is a factor. If you're white, speak English and are generally indistinguishable from white Americans, then you're not considered a threat, no need to crack down on those illegal immigrants. But if you're brown skinned, speak little English and because of that tend to stand out in a crowd, well then apparently you're a problem most white nationalist Americans demand something is done about.

Sure, illegal Canadians be just the same burden as any other illegal immigrant would, but because they blend in so nicely the white nationalists, white supremacists and other ignorant pieces of useless shit don't care if they're here and aren't bother in the slightest about their "illegal" status. At the same time they're losing what little they had left of their minds over every brown person they see imagining a flood of brown Spanish speaking immigrants coming across the border to date their white daughters and "steal all our jobs!" even though virtually no one I've ever talked to has ever claimed they lost their job to an undocumented immigrant. Not once have I heard anyone say "Man, I was out there working the lettuce fields in Salinas and the foreman came up and said "Hey Jim, sorry we're going to have to let you go, Jose here is willing to do your job for less...".

That's just more "yeah but" politics.   It changes nothing.

The fact remains Dems were for border security measures more than two years ago.   Now they aren't.   That isn't because of any racism, perceived or otherwise.   It's just  100% red-ass for Trump plain and simple.   Nothing more, nothing less.

Sad state of affairs when our elected officials chose their petty egos over their constituencies well being.

And they talk about Trumps ego ...... WOW!

The fact that 70% of the illegal immigrants in the US get here by overstaying visas, and the country the majority of the overstays come from is Canada, not Mexico,

The Pew Center reports that while about 93k Canadians overstayed their visas in 2015, over 100k Mexicans were arrested trying to cross the border.  They also report that illegal immigration runs pretty consistently at about 350k/yr , and illegal immigration from Central America is on the sharpest increase.

So the problem is definitely centered at the southern border.

yet all the anger, angst and talk of a wall is on the southern border, that seems to indicate race is a factor.

Canadians are not coming to the US looking for free healthcare.  They are not settling in already very poor communities and putting additional strain on already thin resources.

Sure, illegal Canadians be just the same burden as any other illegal immigrant would

Highly unlikely.

Not once have I heard anyone say "Man, I was out there working the lettuce fields in Salinas and the foreman came up and said "Hey Jim, sorry we're going to have to let you go, Jose here is willing to do your job for less...".

Fair point, and part of a strong case for allowing more legal immigration.

The fact remains Dems were for border security measures more than two years ago.   Now they aren't.

Bullshit.

The Dems were for border security then, and they're for border security now, all that's happened since is that they increased their offer for funding border security to $1.6 billion.

What they aren't for and have never been for, though they did indicate it could be on the table for full recognition of DACA recipients, is a stupid, pointless, dumb ass waste of tax payer money on additional border "wall" that only political sycophants actually want because they recognize it as a campaign promise that could sink Trump in future elections. It has ZERO to do with actual border security, it's a complete waste of money and is less effective than an electronic fence.

So giving Trump what he wants all so he can fulfill a boondoggle idiotic campaign promise so he doesn't lose some of his most xenophobic base in the 2020 election would be shamefully idiotic for Democrats even to consider. Trump owns this shut down, the Republican congress and Senate passed a clean CR just before Christmas, the new Democrat congress passed a clean CR as soon as they came to order January 3rd. They have in fact now passed multiple funding bills and sent them to the senate, so the Democrats are doing their jobs. What this man baby piece of shit in the oval office wants is for Democrats to do his work for him, to send him the bill he wants, not the bill they have all agreed and voted on. Trump is the obstructionist, Trump is the one causing 800,000 Americans financial pain and leaving our nation worse off in almost every metric due to his childish temper tantrum.

Infurated and attempting to prove him wrong, NBCNews.com did a photo book of various scenes in Haiti in order to show how beautiful the place is.

Sadly for them, one of the photos in question showed a sweet young girl walking to school stepping around a puddle of human sewage in the street.

More proof Trump is a complete idiot

Trump mocks immigrants for showing up to court dates

"Those 2 percent are not going to make America great again."

President Donald Trump took time out during his speech at the American Farm Bureau's annual convention on Monday to mock immigrants for showing up to their court dates. (PHOTO CREDIT: MANDEL NGAN/AFP/Getty Images)

Speaking about his proposed U.S.-Mexico border wall, for which he has requested $5.7 billion in funding (and over which he kick-started the ongoing government shutdown), Trump rebuked what he described as failed immigration policies, including “catch and release,” which allows undocumented immigrants to live in the country while their cases play out in immigration court.

“Somebody comes into our country, they touch one foot on the ground, and we have to catch them — it’s called ‘catch,'” Trump told the crowd. “We then take their names and we bring them to a court — can you believe this? — and we release them. But you see we’re trying to do ‘catch and hold.’ ‘Catch and not release.'”

Trump and members of his administration have repeatedly denounced catch and release in the past because they believe immigrants will choose to avoid the law and miss their day in court, in order to remain in the country.

“Now tell me, what percentage of people come back? Would you say 100 percent? No, you’re a little off. How about 2 percent?” Trump asked the crowd.

He then proceeded to mock the “two percent” that do show up to court, saying they were “not smart.”

“Those 2 percent are not going to make America great again,” he added.

The government’s own data proves the “2 percent” figure is incorrect. According to a Justice Department  report from the Executive Office For Immigration Review, in 2017, the number of immigrants who showed up for their court dates was actually 89 percent.

That number has consistently remained high. In 2016, the number of immigrants who showed up for their court dates was 91 percent, and from 2014 to 2015, it was higher than 93 percent.

These numbers are also backed up by the  American Immigration Council,  which concluded that, on average, from 2001 to 2016, roughly 90 percent of asylum-seeking families showed up to courthouse on their assigned date.

Even the Republican-friendly Center For Immigration Studies has conceded that these families consistently follow the rules by meeting their court dates. This is largely because immigrant families know what is at stake: failure to meet mandatory court dates can result in an order of removal, effectively causing immigrants to be deported back to their country of origin.

Well he's just thinkin like trump. If he himself was told to appear in a court room he would consider it smart not to show up and he of course wouldn't, he'd send a representative instead.

To commit a crime and then show up to answer for it Of Course he would consider that to be stupid. Look at who we are talking about, I'm not surprised, Let trump be trump !!!

And hopefully, Soon be gone !
