With the nation in crisis, on the 28th day of a government shutdown caused by the capricious whims of an unstable and possibly illegitimate executive, the one person who could end this crisis by having a vote to reopen government is Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. But instead of leading, he’s digging even deeper into toxic partisan fights.

The Senate spent the small part of Thursday it was actually in session wasting time. McConnell fast-tracked a   bill banning federal funding of abortion   to the floor, knowing that it would never meet cloture. Knowing extremely well that it is also unnecessary—no federal funding goes to abortion—and purely political. He then went on to   block   both Sen. Chuck Schumer’s effort to bring the Russian sanctions disapproval resolution back to the floor, and Sen. Tim Kaine’s effort   to bring a government-funding bill .

President Donald Trump has painted a bleak picture of life on the U.S.-Mexico border as a land overrun with human traffickers, drug smugglers, rapists and blood-thirsty gang members.

But a Republican congressman from Texas says Trump's characterization of a border crisis is a "myth" and the idea of a wall is a "third-century solution to a 21st-century problem."

Rep. Will Hurd, 41, told Rolling Stone that "when you think of a crisis, that means people are afraid to leave their homes, right?"

But "El Paso is one of the safest cities in the United States of America. The same can be said about Del Rio, Presidio and Eagle Pass, places I represent," the former CIA officer said.

Hurd, who narrowly won re-election in the recent midterms, also criticized Trump for using a partial government shutdown that affects the Department of Homeland Security as leverage to secure funding for a barrier on the southern border.

Will Hurd: My black dad taught me how to handle white supremacist rhetoric

"If there is a crisis, why are the people that are dealing with it not being paid?" he asked Rolling Stone.

Where is the DNC in all of this.  They should be capitalizing on this issue and running commercials constantly outlining Mitch McConnell's failure to do his job and the President's failure to lead the country.  Bring back school house rock.

This is why the democrats get outplayed every time.  They don't capitalize on these situations.  They don't know how to come up with a message that resonates with the public.  They are missing a great opportunity here.

McConnell is doing exactly as he's paid to do.  If the system is failing, not working, the people are unhappy and uneasy.  The GOP has thus far been successful enough to lay the blame on the already afraid and confused.  Like it or not, Birtherism worked.  I am curious as to what the 'new and improved' Birtherism 2 will entail and when it will be rolled out.

Correction:

Leaders from the left coast and leaders from the "left" right coast fiddle their radical fundamentalism, while their followers are too stupid to realize they are burning

So do you suggest that Trump should allow the Democrats to wrest the 'Mantel of responsibility' away from him?

I didn't 'blame' anyone. I accept that Trump took the mantel of responsibility on live TV. Why can't you?

No other way to put it.

Only for those who lack imagination.

Ignorance of WHAT Sparty?

No other way to put that either.

Again, there are a plethora of ways to put that, it merely takes imagination.

Then simply clean your shoes off before you walk in the house.   I do every time after i step in a dog-shit conversation like this

Plenty of blame to go around.   One has to be pretty obtuse not to see that.

Only for those who lack imagination.

Yeah, i agree.   You better work on that

Ignorance of WHAT Sparty?

See above or maybe you could just read 1984.   Either way, i'm not very confident that you'll get it.

I've read 1984 at least 5 times. That's why I recognize Trump's and his sycophant's 'doublethink' so easily.

What have these two dumb clucks done lately that shows any kind responsibility to the American people?

Well Trump gave the thumbs up to Pence's CR so McConnell DID put Trump's bill on the floor and passed it by voice vote just before Xmas.

Then the two 'dumb clucks', Coulter and Limbaugh, called Trump mean names and Trump reneged. Trump called Ryan and told him that Coulter and Limbaugh were being mean so he changed his mind. Ryan didn't have the gonads to pass the CR anyway. WTF did Ryan care, he was on the way out. So Ryan added ANOTHER 5.7 BILLION to the debt for Trump's 'WALL', NO committee hearings, ram it through and go home.

What's HILARIOUS to me is that y'all think that the bill that Ryan passed was a panacea. The IRONY is that it is a WORSE deal on Border Security than Trump was offered by the Graham/Durbin deal.

The Graham/Durban deal was 25 Billion available for 10 years, the Ryan bill is 5.7 billion available for 5 years. YOU do the math.

Oh and BTFW, NOWHERE does it say in Ryan's bill does it say that the 5.7 is for a WALL.

Apparently the turtle is of the opinion that Congress is subservient to the executive branch and needs the president's okay before he can do anything.

Except that it was the legislation he put on the floor and was passed with Democratic support, that Trump rejected and brought all this to pass, so clearly he doesn't agree completely.

Where was the left when Reid sat on countless bills from the Republican House to protect Obama? Or wouldn't even table a Republican House Budget because he knew Obama would be forced to reject if? The Dems caused a shutdown then as well; which they tired to blame on the Republicans. All anyone heard from the left was, "We control the Senate and the presidency", then when the Republicans took the Senate as well "Well we still control the Presidency".

Seems the left has no short term or long term memories. Otherwise they would remember they were for border security and fences before Trump took office; and against it after Trump was in charge.

I don't give a shit if the Dems can't stand Trump; get their asses to work and get a budget that will pass the Senate and the President will sign. No more of this BS trying to stiff the DHS; which a good portion of the Dems are against anyways. 5.7 billion is nothing in the budget. If they are worried about how to pay for it then cut some of the over funded and corrupt social programs that have outlived their usefulness.  (Of course the Dems never cut any social programs; just like the Republicans never cut military spending. Too much pork to be had). Or just do what the government always does and put it on the tax payers' credit card.

they were only publicly for border security while they privately knew it would not get passed into law.

the left is very predictable like that. but their games only work if we play along.

Then why not make a comment ABOUT legislation. How about the FACT that legislation already existed before the Dec. shutdown to fund the government including the amount requested by Trump for Border Security. What to discuss why NONE of it ever made it to the floor of the Senate for a vote?
