Mexico Didn't Pay, So Now Trump Is
An enraged senator Michael Bennett from Colorado stood on the senate floor and shouted that the "government has been shut down because of a promise he could not keep ! "  He's talking about Trump and the campaign promise that "Mexico would pay for it".

President Trump is being bopped around like one of those old Joe Palooka toys

s-l400.jpg

They took two votes in the Senate today , either one of which would have ended the government shutdown. The president's proposal got 50 votes (needed 60 to pass) , and the Democrats proposal got 52 votes (needed 60). So, in a majority republican senate, with a republican president in office, the minority party bill got more votes. First punch in the mouth to Trump.

Second kick in the nuts to Trump. He was forced to agree with Nancy Pelosi's proposal to delay the state of the union until after the government re-opens.

Third slap in the face to the president. An enraged senator Michael Bennett from Colorado stood on the senate floor and shouted that the "government has been shut down because of a promise he could not keep ! "  He's talking about Trump and the campaign promise that "Mexico would pay for it".  This is correct, had Trump gotten Mexico to pay for it, he might have his wall. But he couldn't and probably didn'y even try very hard after the first time when the president of Mexico told him "NO".

Trump's utter failure to keep this promise has brought him to the fourth blow, the knockout punch of the hour to Palooka Donnie, his poll rating, which fell to 34% this week.

He got his ass kicked.

Trump even refused to disparage the remarks of his half senile old Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross, who earlier in the day had suggested that the pain felt by the unpaid workers was not much of a big deal.

I was listening to Trump earlier when he was asked about those comments and he said he hadn't listened to them but that Wilbur should have said it better... I really can't believe he is the supposed leader of the free world. It's like hiring an orangutan as an editor for your newspaper. Sure, he can slap his hands on the keyboard and make what appear to be letters with spaces, but his editorial is not in any way intelligible.

He's talking about Trump and the campaign promise that "Mexico would pay for it".

Right from jump street this notion should have told the electorate something. It was never going to happen, but then again this is the same American public that went gaga over Pet Rocks and Mood Rings.

How often do we really see politicians running for national office make claims or promises they really have no intention or ability to keep? Every single candidate for President in this country has done so, some more some less than others. It is all about getting votes, and no one party alone is exempt...

Every single candidate for President

Are you sure...you would think that only Trump did.  They will be moaning about Mexico paying for the wall daily.

Not closing Gitmo was a huge campaign promise failure for Obama and he had eight years to get it accomplished.

If i recall Obama did try to close Gitmo but was obstructed by the republicans and did not hold the country hostage over it, just moved on and said "ok, at least I tried, how can we make Gitmo safer and more humane instead" . So not a campaign lie cause he did try.  Trump could learn a thing or two.  Trump can say "Eh, i tried my best but it just wasn't in the cards, how can we now move forward to ensure borders are secure in a way everyone can agree with".

Priorities, you know good leaders prioritize the importance of their actions, saving America from bankruptcy was priority #1, Healthcare #2, that took some time, only had the majority for 2 years. Gitmo was a little ways down the list.

In Trump's world of do the opposite of what Obama would do, plans are being made to expand Gitmo, since Congress would never approve of closing it or at least relocating the last 40 terrorist prisoners.

John, I know this is off-topic, so feel free do delete, but I just listened to Sarah Sanders talk about how 'this president' loves all Americans deeply, and only wants the very best for them.  He would never hurt them, and has done everything in his power to prove his loyalty and utmost respect for all Americans.  These were not her exact words, but they reflect the intent of her statement.

Someone needs to tell me how she can keep a straight face and speak with such conviction.  'This president' is mired in his own self agenda, and has spent a tremendous amount of time calling Americans 'haters, losers, liars', and those are the kindest things he has said.  I hope that one day, Ms. Sanders has an opportunity to review her contributions to the current administration, and recognizes how ridiculous she has sounded while trying to sell the American public such an enormous load of crap.

Wonder why they just do not have Navy SeaBees or the Army Corps of Engineers build the thing? Just take the funds out of the military budget. The SeaBees are only allowed to build in CONUS  (Continental United States) as self help projects or training purposes. Sounds like a perfect example of both.

I am inclined not to let anyone with such an obvious admiration of Vladimir Putin, and a host of other dictator-type world leaders, force the funding for, or oversee the construction of, anything resembling a border wall.  I'm starting to wonder if the stupid wall is more for the purpose of keeping people in, as opposed to keeping people out.  If I were someone who was compromised, and I'm starting to think there might be more than one pee video out there, I would never draw such attention to myself regarding a project that is as unpopular with the American people as this wall is.

NEW YORK (AP) — The Federal Aviation Administration is reporting delays in air travel because of a "slight increase in sick leave" at two East Coast air traffic control facilities.

FAA spokesman Gregory Martin said Friday that it had augmented staffing, rerouted traffic and increased spacing between planes as needed.

The staffing problems were at air traffic centers in Jacksonville, Florida and a Washington D.C. center that controls high-altitude air traffic over seven states.

Martin says safety is being maintained during a period of "minimal impacts" on travel.

LaGuardia Airport in New York and Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey were both experiencing delays in takeoffs.

This is Trump's weakest moment

This is undoubtedly the weakest moment of President Trump’s tenure in office. He handed House Speaker Nancy Pelosi a win by agreeing to postpone the State of the Union address and handed her a second win by caving on the government shutdown.  The president may be the commander in chief of the American military, but Nancy Pelosi now looks like the commander in chief of Donald Trump. He has upset his relationship with Republicans just before the Mueller report comes out and on the day Roger Stone gets hauled off to jail.

Shortly after Trump made his announcement that the government would reopen, various pro-Trump pundits rushed out to praise the president’s leadership. Like O’Reilly, they seem to think this is a brilliant bit of strategy. Of course, they likely do not really think that. Behind the scenes, many of them feel betrayed and realize the president caved and looks weak. This highlights part of the problem that got the president into this mess in the first place.

The people Trump more often than not listens to would rather treat the president with worshipful reverence than give him candid advice. That cacophony of sycophancy has not only brought this presidency to its lowest point, but also ensured the wall they all want will never be built. This president, moving into 2020, needs less sycophants on speed dial and more hard nosed advisers who have his best interests, not their access to him, at heart.
