CBS reporter stunned when veteran Border Patrol agent uses word ‘crisis’, says it’s worst he’s ever seen
The veteran agent, who has served under six different administrations, not only agreed with Trump, he made the dire situation very clear to Villarreal. “I’ve seen six different presidents at the time that I’ve been with the Border Patrol and this is the worst crisis that I’ve seen,” he said. “You actually will use that word ‘crisis’?” the CBS reporter asked. “Yes,” was the agent’s simple response.

The liberal media seems to struggle with facts as presented by President Donald Trump, even if they’re backed by experts.

A CBS reporter on the ground at the U.S. southern border balked when a veteran Border Patrol agent called the situation the “worst crisis” he has ever seen, echoing Trump’s characterization of the immigration issue facing the nation at its southern border.

CBS News’ Mireya Villarreal reported from the border between the U.S. and Mexico in Nogales, Arizona in a segment on “CBS Evening News” on Wednesday, covering how Border Patrol agents are working without pay amid the month-long government shutdown.

But if she was hoping to find evidence to refute any of the president’s claims or to weaken his argument that funding is necessary to build a barrier and secure America’s borders, Border Patrol agent Fernando Grijalva was not the man to deliver.

And the fact that he and other agents are not getting paid because of the partial government shutdown is irrelevant as Grijalva and others feel strongly about what they are called to do.

“They believe strongly in the mission and they know that we have a job to do,” he told Villarreal after she asked about the federal employees missing their second paycheck amid the ongoing shutdown.

Although a type of barrier structure exists at the location Villarreal was reporting from, she noted the ease with which migrants are crossing into the U.S.

“Just over it is a major highway. Buses come right through here. Migrants get off and then they walk right into the United States,” she said. Last year, border agents apprehended 52,000 people in this area alone, an increase of more than 1,000 apprehensions a month over the previous year.”

On Wednesday morning alone, a group of 180 migrants were apprehended by Arizona border agents.

While Villarreal may not have wanted to admit Trump has been right all along in calling the situation at the southern border a “crisis,” facts don’t lie. And Grijalva doesn’t see how agents can properly do their jobs in keeping Americans safe without the existence of a wall.

“Operationally I can tell that you without a physical barrier at border patrol we have a very tough time succeeding,” he said.

The real crisis for Democrats is all these border patrol agents who keep doing interviews and saying that there is a crisis and they would really like a wall please.

If the democrat party in congress tries to take the executive branch to court over a declaration of a national emergency the expert testimony will be damning to their side and if it gets to the Supreme Court, Justice Roberts is very reluctant to involve the Court in disputes between the other two branches over laws one passed and the other signed, especially when said law has a built in provision for congress to countermand said emergency declaration with a 2/3 majority in both houses.

Since the number of illegal border crossings is at the lowest number ever, how is it that there is a crisis?

The only crisis we are experiencing revolves around Trump insanity and fear mongering.

Really, with thousands from the caravan seeking to cross daily, and thousands more on the way.  I guess that is fake news as well?

Of course you missed this from the article.

“Just over it is a major highway. Buses come right through here. Migrants get off and then they walk right into the United States,” she said. Last year, border agents apprehended 52,000 people in this area alone, an increase of more than 1,000 apprehensions a month over the previous year.”

Yeah, they are at the lowest ever./S

Why would border agents lie; especially when they are not getting paid for their work?

TDS syndrome is rampant.

If you lived right on the AZ/Mexico border like I do, you would see reality and would probably sing a different tune...

BS! You are only considering the number of apprehensions, not the uncounted ones that actually do not get caught.

If you read what he said it isn’t the lowest point ever and there are clear and present dangers to our country with who and what is coming across.

a wall won't stop illegal immigration, but huge fines and jail time for republicans that hire them will

It won’t?  Well if walls are so immoral and non effective, we need someone on Monday introduce a bill in Congress to tear down all the existing border walls and barriers that are so immoral and so ineffective at reducing the flow of illegal immigration  where they are.

I did watch the video. It shows a border patrol agent saying that his job would be easier if there were more walls. It also shows where large groups used a ladder and a tunnel to defeat the wall. So, one person for a wall, many people defeating walls.

I also read that all the congressional representatives of the districts along the border oppose the wall. This includes the Republican representative for the Texas 23rd district who was just re-elected running against the wall. That district spans more than a third of our border with Mexico. I also read that conservative voters who voted for Trump in those districts mostly oppose the wall. It is too disruptive to their businesses and their economies in general, as well as being largely ineffective.

Back to the border control agent saying his job would be easier with more walls: It would make the Policemen’s jobs easier if guns were taken away from everyone. But, that would not be acceptable to me, and I think also a majority of Americans. I think the Border Agent is biased and his bias pushes a solution that would make his job easier, but would do much damage to the majority along the boarder.

Texas seems kind of tricky just because the whole border is river. You obviously can't put a barrier in the river. From what I have seen, in the few places in Texas where they have some kind of fence, it's miles inside the US.

The border is either 1954 or 1989 miles long depending on the source.

The Texas border alone is 1254 miles long with 28 international bridges/ports of entry.

That's 64% of the border and 63% of the legal border crossings.

Most towns are divided by barriers and barriers are common alongside I 10 where it runs close to the border from El Paso to Fort Hancock.

Actual figures are difficult to ascertain except for the Big Bend Sector which is 510 miles long ( roughly from Fort Hancock to Del Rio ), and has only 5 miles of "fencing".

Most of CA, NM and AZ has something along the border, be it pedestrian fencing or vehicle barriers because the USA has a 60ft easement all along those borders.

Texas had no such arrangement and the Rio Grande Valley which comprises most of the Big Bend Sector is a wild, wild place.

The remaining 700 plus miles of the border is virtually private property or Indian Rez by treaty allthe way down to Brownsville where th existing slat barriers just stop with huge gaps due to one of the 85 ongoing lawsuits against the US.

I’m sure some one interested could seed their own article about it.  The bottom line is that adding a couple hundred miles of border barrier to the existing and repairing and upgrading the existing as needed will make the job of defending the border easier to do.  It frees up the added border patrol agents using technology to better defend the areas where there still would be no wall, mostly in that congressman’s district where the river is the border and only key easy crossing points need constant wall and or surveillance.
