Prominent 'Independent' Thinking About Helping Trump Get Re-Elected
Independents need to realize something very serious. If they vote for an independent or third party candidate they will be complicit (if not entirely to blame) for giving us 4 more years of the Trump horror show.

Howard Schultz , once the longtime CEO of Starbucks , says he is "seriously" thinking about running for president (of the United States) as an independent. His "rationale" is that the Republican and Democratic partys have become too extreme right and extreme left. He wants to run as a centrist.

Right now Trump is badly underwater with independents and we can assume that most independent votes will go to the Democrat in the 2020 election, unless someone likes Schultz runs and potentially, and perhaps even likely, tips the race to Trump.

Political experts believe Schultz could not win the electoral votes of a single state. For example take a swing state like Michigan. Is there any chance whatsoever that Schultz could win a plurality in Michigan? No, there is not. But could he take enough votes from a Kamala Harris to give the state to Trump? Yes he could.

Independents need to realize something very serious. If they vote for an independent or third party candidate they will be complicit (if not entirely to blame) for giving us 4 more years of the Trump horror show.

Trump wants Schultz to run.

He tweeted taunts out to Schultz this morning, in an effort to goad him into running.

Too late.   Schultz more or less said he wanted to run last night on 60 minutes.

So move along, nothing to see here ..... no taunts from Trump needed .....

why does a moderate scare democrats so much?  Don’t be crazy and you could actually attract their votes.

He's not that moderate.   He just doesn't believe in the Dem or Rep parties.

Gotta agree with him wholeheartedly there ...

Schultz would do nothing other than help Trump. That is why Trump is taunting him this morning.

If Kasich runs as an independent from the "conservative" side maybe it would balance things out.

If Schultz runs and no conservative independent runs he will need to drop out prior to the election and throw his support to the Democrat. Otherwise he will go down in infamy as a traitor to his country who helped Trump.

Oh yeah, the Dems will definitely execute their best "monkey stomp" to stop him.   I hope he puts a cup on and fights them the whole way.

Don't like some of his positions but he is really spot on with many of them

Exercising his Constitutional right to run for office makes him a "Traitor".  How batshit crazy is that?

And you call other people "brainwashed".

Is he, too, unqualified to be President to you?

I heard Schultz say that Trump was unqualified to be President. I wonder what he thinks makes him more qualified, being he and Trump have the same type of background..they are both billionaires, they both ran businesses and neither have run for political office.

Your question to John is legitimate. Say this guy runs as a democrat and gets the nomination. Will John scream and kick that he is unqualified to be President? Somehow, I think not...

The thinking is that a left of center independent populist candidate might draw enough votes away from the Democrats to give Trump another electoral college victory despite him losing the overall popular vote which has been divided between two more liberal candidates by a mile ala Ross Perot throwing the 1992 election to Clinton by siphoning off millions of Bush Sr voters.

A much better deal for all Americans would be for an establishment republican to run against Trump as an Independent in order to decimate his lousy vote. Say, um, Mitt Romney or maybe Jeb Bush or any other non-Trumpian mainline conservative...

America has had enough of vainglorious populist billionaire politicians.

I.E. Donald Trump. Now Bloomberg and Schultz think it must be easy...

......and we can assume that most independent votes will go to the Democrat in the 2020 election.

You can assume that as most liberals will.

But then you also assumed that the "Mountain of Trash" would automatically win the presidency for Hillary....

Nobody would vote for T-rump.....

How did that work out for your assuming abilities?

Schultz demurred when asked whether his entrance would be damaging for Democrats. "I want to see the American people win," he said. "I will be an independent person who will embrace those ideas because I'm not in any way in bed with a party."

Schultz has been a frequent and loud critic of Mr. Trump, and had used his position as CEO of Starbucks as a platform to weigh in on cultural debates. In his "60 Minutes" interview, he agreed with many Democratic Party positions, including on immigration and climate change. And on the foreign policy front, he said it was not in the country's interest to pick fights with allies. "We are much better as a country being part of the world order," he said.

But he disagrees with a push within the party for a "Medicare-for-All" approach to health care coverage, arguing that "what the Democrats are proposing is something that is as false as the wall. And that is free health care for all, which the country cannot afford."

It is time for a viable 3rd party candidate .. Schultz seemingly has common sense qualities that many in the middle 'may be' looking for - he has his own resources that could allow him to stay in the race as long as he chooses to...  I am looking for a candidate that I can support - let's hear what else he has to say …...

I love this part ….

Neera Tanden, the president of the Center for American Progress, put it more bluntly: "If he enters the race, I will start a Starbucks boycott because I'm not giving a penny that will end up in the election coffers of a guy who will help Trump win."

The American people be damn'd .. must beat Trump …  perhaps Schultz is the guy to do it, but be sure to not even entertain the thought .. just quickly boycott … what next, will individuals be stalking him and shouting him down while he is having dinner to ensure he does not run?

Prediction: over time he will decide not to run. (he has the $$$ but not the support).

And in any event, the guy is too sensible--and too intelligent. Neither of those qualities have much appeal for the majority of American voters! :-(

And here is something else none has taken into consideration at all.

The conservatives, beginning with The John Birchers and through the current crop of TEA advocates have railed and cried about America's demise, failing and collapse for decade upon decade.

So.  Could it be that the Trump's re-election is necessary for the 'conservative warnings' to not only become possible, but also America's destiny.

If I am not mistaken, Putin has already alluded to this, along with his new ally, China.
