Border walls work, and Democrats know it
President Barack Obama’s own Border Patrol chief, Mark Morgan, recently said: “I cannot think of a legitimate argument why anyone would not support the wall as part of a multilayered border security issue.” Prominent Democrats — including Chuck Schumer, Joe Biden and Obama — supported legislation in 2006 for walls, technology and other measures, resulting in the construction of a physical barrier at Yuma. Illegal crossings into Yuma dropped by 90 percent.

The clock is ticking, and Congress must quickly develop comprehensive border security legislation. America is waiting. But first, Democrats must realize something simple — something the American people already understand: We need a wall.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi dismisses a border wall as “immoral.” This claim is brazenly false.

Consider Turkey, Hungary and Israel, which experienced dramatic reductions in illegal crossings since building walls. Israel’s illegal crossings, because of the wall and other policies, dropped by 99 percent !

In the parts of America where walls have already been built, they have been incredibly successful. In San Diego, i llegal crossings plummeted 95 percent after building a wall and instituting several other personnel and technology changes.

Democrats know walls work. Naturally, many prominent Democrats have physical barriers guarding their mansions and their gated communities.

Apparently, walls are only “immoral” when they protect regular citizens, and when a man named Trump is the president.

As our porous border continues creating and exacerbating humanitarian crises — child trafficking among migrants, drugs and crime flowing into America — it would be immoral not to secure our borders and build a wall.

This is not a left or right issue, nor even a political issue. It is a commonsense issue. It is time we fulfill our promise, and deliver what our country needs and what American citizens deserve. It is time to build the wall.

Republican Matt Gaetz represents Florida’s 1st congressional district.

IMO: Those who insist on calling this nothing but a wall when in reality it has been and will be more of a fence seem intent on using improper terminology I'd say in order to be inflammatory,

Divisive not unitary.

When that makes the united states of America Great wake me up.

sad

People hung up on walls, fences, barriers, etc. seem to miss the bigger picture.

I certainly agree, and someone should tell our president. America has been building a fence for years no one thought a damn thing about it it was just a matter of coming up with the money. Enter trump and his Wall, a great 2000 mile wall.

LOL I have little doubt the wall trump had pictured was much like the Great Wall. A monumental Wall.

Not gonna happen. even I think he realizes that now. He still has trouble saying the word Fence. I think its funny but shows his immaturity as well.

Then the histrionics from some should simply cease.

That's what leadership is about.

So Democratic leadership engaged in the histrionics are "leaders" to you. That explains much.

LOL, Not so much. I'm an independant. Was a dem then a rep now an indy

So a republican president and the republican half of the congressional leadership engaged in the histrionics are "leaders" to you.

That pretty well explains much as well.. Wall = fence.  Who knew.

More dumb-fuckery I see.

Yes, fences or "walls" work in high traffic areas where there can be an immediate response from border control. It's why Democrats voted for the Fence act.

What Democrats don't support is spending billions on another 1000 miles of "wall" in non-high traffic areas all for a political "win" for Trump who used the fantasy of a "border emergency" to stir up the bigots in his base. There's nothing a fuck wad Nazi wants more than a wall to keep out what they see as inferior races.

Trump also promised Mexico will pay for it, which isn't EVER going to happen no matter how much the dick munching Nazi's and confederate wannabes want it to. So even if Trump manages to get anything passed through congress that says "wall" no matter how small, he's still breaking his campaign pledge to build a "big beautiful wall" that Mexico's going to pay for.

No, the wall is to keep those who have no respect for the laws of the United States from entering the country illegally. [deleted]

A wall or a barrier is more effective at keeping the illegal aliens out than no wall or barrier

Exactly.  And we are talking about around 200 miles of barriers in areas of high priority by the border patrol along with a package of complimentary measures they need, not the fibs of 1,000 miles or a wall from sea to sea.

There is no border crisis, despite what Trump tries to convince his followers.

A wall or a barrier is more effective at keeping the illegal aliens out than no wall or barrier

Imagine you owned the deed to a gold mine and you hired two foreman to analyze the site and make recommendations for a mining operation.

The first foreman comes back and says "My scans of the site show a high yield rich field where if we invest $1M in a mining operation it will likely yield $50,000 a day in gold paying back the investment on the mine equipment in just two weeks. This is my recommended course of action".

The second foreman says "What the first foreman said was true. However, if you want 100% of your gold from this claim we can mine the whole mountain. To build that operation would cost $5 billion. The added gold yield would be another $10,000 a day making $60,000 a day in gold. We would be able to pay back the investment in just 228 years. This is my recommendation because you get 100% of the gold from your claim".

Which foreman do you think you'd go with? Are you that concerned with what other people might say if you weren't able to get 100% of the gold? Would it be worth it to spend 100 times more for a fraction of gain?

The facts show that the current 700 miles of fencing protects the high traffic areas that both Republicans and Democrats agreed upon, voted for and funded do help our border security. Adding hundreds more miles into the areas least frequently crossed, spending billions more to build it, billions a year to maintain, all for a political win to give one parties candidate a better chance of winning an upcoming election should be criminal.

70% of illegal immigrants get here by overstaying visas and Canada is the worst offender of illegal visa overstays. Oh, and on top of that...

"While Trump raged about building a wall on the southern border, a lab in Calgary was pumping out 18,000 counterfeit OxyContin per hour. Inside the new threat north of the border"

Now,  I'm not against Canada, but why are we so much less concerned about the illegal border crossings, drugs and illegal overstays coming from the North than so many of Trumps base seem to be about the South? The only conclusion I can draw based on these facts is that some in America are more fearful, more angered by, more upset by the look and language of those coming from the South than they are at those coming from the North. When a Canadian takes their job they don't even notice so they're not upset. But when a Spanish speaking brown person replaces them at their job, even if they're a legal citizen, some in this country get furious over what they see as a vanishing white culture. Well I'm not about to agree to spending billions of tax dollars for some moronic, beyond stupid, racist, boondoggle vanity wall just to appease those half-wit xenophobic Richard holes.

The President of the USA 🇺🇸 was exactly right in his state of the union about the need for more barriers and the damage to America and Americans that the lack of them has caused.  He is right about the political class waging war on the working and middle class by opposing the wall while they live behind walls in their own personal lives.
