Stephen Colbert Apologizes To Trump

Stephen Colbert to Trump: ‘I’m Sorry That You’re a Terrible President’

In his first show after Attorney General William Barr released the summary report of Special Counsel Robert Mueller ‘s findings, Stephen Colbert had a few words for President Donald Trump .

Colbert started off by noting that he had a good weekend but “not as good as Donald Trump’s .” He then shared what he dubbed “troubling” news.

“Our president is not a Russian asset,” he said.

He then added, “I say ‘troubling news’ because if Trump is not working with the Russians, then what the hell is wrong with him? If they don’t have anything on him then why does he keep saying nice things about Vladimir Putin ?”

“What about the smoke monster, was it real or not?” Colbert continued on, comparing the Mueller report ending to the ending of Lost . “And if not, why have so many members of Trump’s campaign plead guilty to lying about meeting with the smoke monster?”

Colbert then suggested that even an ending like Seinfeld ‘s finale would have been better.

“Still disappointing, but at least they’re all in jail!” the Late Show host quipped.

Finally, noting the calls from Trump supporters for the president’s critics to apologize, Colbert offered this faux-apology directly to Trump : “Mr. President, if you’re watching, and I know you are… I’m sorry that you’re a terrible president.”

I'm glad Colbert apologized to Trump. It was the decent thing to do.

Another butt hurt leftist. At least he has his money and his sheeple fans to console him.

Maybe he can re-title his show "Reality Sucks with Stephen Colbert"

Colbert Concedes — on This Point

In his first new episode of “The Late Show” since Robert Mueller delivered his report to Attorney General Robert Barr, Stephen Colbert did his best to balance frustration with humility.

“Fair is fair,” he said. “Barr says Mueller says there was no collusion between Trump and Russia, so we have to cross collusion off the list of reasons Trump is unfit to be president.”

Then Colbert got literal. “Fellas, bring out the board,” he cried, and out came a whiteboard filled with a list of controversial things Trump has said or done.

Reading through items like “put kids in cages,” “gave security clearance to his son-in-law,” “repeatedly humped flag” and “all that birther stuff,” Colbert eventually found his way to “colluded with Russia,” and erased it. A list with dozens of other items remained.

Then he flipped the board over, revealing another list on the opposite side. “I really want to be fair to him. I should also cross off ‘Mueller’ from the list of Trump investigations,” Colbert said, now revealing a list of the 17 legal investigations into Trump by New York’s attorney general, various House committees and other government bodies.

Colbert erased the Mueller investigation from this list. “Sir, it’s gone,” he announced to Trump . “That must be 1/17th of a weight off your shoulders.”

The latest poll to drive home that point comes from the Public Religion Research Institute, which finds more than one in 10 young adults (ages 18-29) say they trust "The Daily Show" or its now-departed spinoff, "The Colbert Report," the most to tell them what's going on in the world.

That's more than double the 6 percent of Americans who say they trust Stewart and Stephen Colbert, the former anchor of "The Colbert Report."

Notice that not one Trumpster can dispute the point of Colbert's bit.

All they can do is attack Colbert.

It is like this with virtually every thread about Trump. No one can actually defend him, all they can do is attack the media and other people who report on him.

If they don’t have anything on him then why does he keep saying nice things about Vladimir Putin?”

Gee, I don't know. Maybe for the same reason that Obama and Hillary Clinton wanted to "reset" relations with Russia. Maybe for the same reason that Obama whispered of being more flexible after an election. Simple Diplomacy. At the end of the day, it's better for us - and the rest of the world, for that matter - if the US is on good terms, rather than bad, with a country like Russia.

“I say ‘troubling news’ because if Trump is not working with the Russians, then what the hell is wrong with him? If they don’t have anything on him then why does he keep saying nice things about Vladimir Putin?”

I have always wondered how with Trump we seemed to have skipped the basic requirement for a President to act Presidential and jumped straight to "Well at least he's not a knowing Russian asset."

“What about the smoke monster, was it real or not?”

While the investigation didn't find direct evidence that Trump criminally conspired with an enemy foreign government, we know the enemy foreign government helped get him elected and he certainly didn't reject their help. Sure, maybe he's just a bumbling idiot and it really was a joke when he asked the Russians to find the missing emails, but is even that really acceptable from a President? Are standards of conduct and a requirement to NOT be a bumbling idiot no longer a thing in the era of Trump?

“And if not, why have so many members of Trump’s campaign plead guilty to lying about meeting with the smoke monster?”

The smoke monster may end up being the ruse Trump and company have used to obfuscate their true criminal activities. With the smoke monster of Russian collusion sucking all the air out of the room for the last two years the very real crimes of the inauguration fund buying access to the President, the violations of the emoluments clause, the Kushner plan of selling nuclear technology to the Saudis, the misuse of the Trump charity, the violations of campaign finance laws in paying off the porn stars during the election, all scandalous and any one of which would be seen in any other Presidency as a major investigation. Sadly, because they paled in comparison to the prospect that our President was compromised by an enemy foreign government, they have been overshadowed and now many Trump supporters ignorantly dismiss them.

I'll answer with similar questions. Why don't immigrants and victims of domestic violence or rape report crimes to the police? Why don't those same people testify at trial?

The answer for all is the same. They don't the trust the system to protect them, much less to simply be fair. So, it doesn't matter if you've actually committed a crime. If you think prosecutors might construe legal, innocent behavior as being somehow illegal, you will hide that information or lie about it. It happens every day all over the country in small cases and big ones. It is done by humble immigrants who don't speak the language and it is done by educated elites. These people even lie to their own lawyers.
