The Mueller report won’t change anything
The reason Trump isn’t getting impeached has nothing to do with a lack of impeachable offenses. There was a cornucopia of legally justifiable reasons to impeach Trump the first day he set foot in office. He’s on tape confessing to sexual assault. His fake “university” was a fraudulent organization that bilked American citizens of enormous sums, sometimes their life savings. His supposed charitable foundation was also fraudulent and quite likely used to bribe a law enforcement official. His...

No matter how often it’s been debunked, the idea still floats around in the anti-Trump resistance that, as happened with Watergate, we finally reach a breaking point where the impeachment and removal of the president becomes inevitable. Because of the mystery around it, the Mueller report has become the holy grail of this particular quest, imagined to be stuffed full of evidence of impeachable offenses by Trump that will be the catalyst that fuels the impeachment fire.

This, however, is completely wrong. His  supposed charitable foundation was also fraudulent  and quite likely used to  bribe a law enforcement official . His  family’s fortune was built largely through tax fraud .

That Trump was a crook was known before he took office. Since then, he’s continue to behave in ways that constitute legal grounds for impeachment. Just last week, it was reported that  Trump has demanded that government officials  break the law and, in one reported case, dangled the promise of a pardon as an incentive to then-Border Patrol head Kevin McAleenan. He uses his Twitter account to foment violence against  political opponents  and  journalists . He’s clearly violating his promise not to run his businesses from the White House. People seeking to curry favor with him blatantly  use his hotel  and  Florida resort  as a channel to direct bribes right into his pocket.

As for the two main questions people have about the Mueller report — did Trump conspire with Russian agents, and did he obstruct justice? — there’s enough in the public sphere to legally justify an impeachment. Trump  basically admitted to Lester Holt at NBC  that he fired James Comey as FBI director in an effort to obstruct justice. And in a move that smells strongly of conspiracy,  Trump told Russian officials, in the Oval Office,  that firing Comey would prevent an investigation. He also publicly bullied former Attorney General Jeff Sessions out of his job,  reportedly angry that Sessions  wouldn’t do more to interfere with the Mueller investigation. He’s  also publicly threatened witnesses  against him.

All of this is reason enough to impeach and convict Trump, from a legal standpoint, without any Mueller report ever seeing the light of day. The reason House Democrats haven’t moved to do so is simple enough: They know the Republican-controlled Senate won’t convict Trump. If Republicans refuse to convict Trump after all the already blatant corruption on display, there’s almost nothing, short of murder (and possibly not even that), that will move them now.

In a lot of ways, the build-up around the Mueller report has benefited Trump, even as he whines publicly in the most guilty-sounding fashion imaginable about the fact that the investigation even existed in the first place. The more the public and the media have focused on the Mueller report as the linchpin in the case against Trump, the less focus there was on Trump’s already lengthy public rap sheet.

In a sense, we’re all like Dorothy from “The Wizard of Oz,” going on a long and arduous journey when the answer was at our feet the entire time. If all it took was enough evidence to declare that Donald Trump is a criminal, all we needed to do is click our heels three times and recite “‘Access Hollywood’ tape, witness intimidation, tax fraud, Trump University, charity fraud, political bribes, incitement to commit crimes, firing James Comey.”

Trump announced today that Attorney General Barr will hold a press conference at the time the report is released tomorrow.

Everyone is asking why?  All he has to do is release the report.  The only purpose this press conference will serve is for Barr to spin it (the report) in Trump's direction. That is not his role or his job.

The press and the people need to wake up.

there’s enough in the public sphere to legally justify an impeachment.

Not legally or really. Wishful and magical thinking is not grounds for impeachment.

Since the democrats seem to have come to their senses, what's up next?

So, impeach Trump already.  I suppose it will be necessary to overcome the obstruction by Nancy Pelosi before that can happen.  There are a whole bunch of Presidential candidates in Congress.  If those Democratic candidates can't impeach Trump when that is the obvious thing to do then what does that say about what kind of President they would be?

Obstruction by Nancy Pelosi?  jrSmiley_25_smiley_image.gif

'And what does the action taken by a body of congress have to do with the viability of a potential campaign from one of its' members?   Strange litmus test, Nerm.'  Irrelevant, as usual.

I think what he might have meant is that Pelosi has stated that impeachment is off the table for now until they get the Mueller report and/or see that impeachment is a viable path.

That right there is all you need to understand how warped, delusional, and partisan this whole affair has been. The only cornucopia is one full of partisan bullshit that ignores the Constitution.

Impeachment is supposed to be for removing someone from a position based on their behavior in that position, not for something they did prior (unless the election was fraudulent and this one wasn't). Trump's actions prior to setting foot in office were already adjudicated by the voters on Election Day. The purpose of impeachment is not to undo a valid election.

he fired James Comey as FBI director . . . He also publicly bullied former Attorney General Jeff Sessions out of his job

Stop! For the love of God and the sanity of intelligent people, please stop. The Left HATED both of those men and publicly and repeatedly called for them to not be confirmed (in the case of Sessions), resign, or be fired. All sorts of arguments were made by Democrats that neither man should continue in their job.

But then when Trump fires them, the ONLY possible explanation is that Trump was obstructing justice and isn't it sad and outrageous that two such fine men were treated so unfairly?

I mean how can you not just throw up in your mouth when you hear this stuff?

People who defend Trump embarrass themselves every day. You only have yourselves to blame for that fact.

It's not even about defending Trump. It's about defending the Constitution. We have a way that we do things in this country and every time it doesn't turn out the way Democrats want, there are some who will say or do anything to go against the Constitution, ignore the rules and force their desire on the rest of the country.

You guys get funnier by the minute.

Trump has lied thousands of times to the American people SINCE he took office. You don't think that is an impeachable offense? An impeachable offense is whatever the politics of the hour say it is. And constant lying is definitely impeachable.

There is no issue if there is cause to impeach Trump, the issue is the result. Since the Senate has a majority of GOP Trump lackeys impeachment would fail.

But please spare us the laugher that he is not impeachable.

No, because if that were true, we would be impeaching every president. We would have impeached Obama for promising that I could keep my doctor and my healthcare plan.

SINCE he took office

Let's remember that I was responding to the claim that Trump was impeachable ON THE VERY DAY he took office. That's stupid and absurd. I can't think of a single thing he did on the first day (i.e. January 20, 2017) that would warrant impeachment and I haven't seen any evidence offered to change my mind.

An impeachable offense is whatever the politics of the hour say it is.

If you want to go down that road - a road where Congress has no integrity at all - we will impeach every president the moment they are elected and the only one in charge will be Chaos.

every politician to date has lied. none are exempt.

there is only one relevant question.

were they, or trump, under oath when they lied?

An impeachable offense is whatever the politics of the hour say it is.

in communist china maybe... LOL  your seriously not that clueless are you?

late breaking news, this is the USA.

thinking like that is why people on the left will soon be facing charges of treason.

carry on :)

You are right about one thing in this entire thread. The release of the report tomorrow is not going to change anybody's mind. If you are part of the Trump resistance you will find something in the report to latch on to as justification for your feelings. If you are pro-Trump you will find something in the report to prove that you are correct.  It has been very predictable all along however. For two years the left has been trumpeting that Mueller was going to find the proof and that Trump was going to be perp-walked out of the Oval Office. Now that doesn't seem to be the case as the report is stated as showing there was no collusion between the Trump team and Russa. So then the left moved to denounce Barr as untrustworthy and just a stooge of Trump. And of course the right has been fighting just as hard every day to put down the investigation.

What is missing in the entire discussion is that both sides have been played. The two parties continue their march of domination as We the People can't seem to grasp that those two parties are just two sides of the same coin.
