How to Tell if a News Site Is Reliable
It’s happened before, and with another presidential election looming next year, it’s going to happen again and again. The spread of “fake news,” the incorrect labeling of real news as “fake,” and overall confusion as to how to tell the difference.

The Poynter Institute is offering some guidance via its International Fact-Checking Network, which has compiled a list of unreliable news sites it’s calling “UnNews.”

Here’s how they did it:

To create the index, we combined five major lists, then eliminated the sites that were no longer active. We only used lists that were public and curated by established journalists or academics, contained original data (rather than information from other lists), stated their criteria for inclusion and defined how they graded different sites (see our methodology for more).

There are more than 500 “UnNews” sites on the list in “phase one” of the index. The next phase will work to “automatically remove inactive sites, add sites by following URL redirects (which often lead to new fake news schemes) and harvest related domains,” the report says.

The list is searchable and the sites have tags that label them as biased, unreliable, conspiracy, satire or clickbait.

There are more links in the OA.

"the incorrect labeling of real news as “fake,”

No MAJOR media outlets on your list Bob ?

Why ?

It's not "Incorrect" to label ANY News? media, that puts out "Fake" CRAP like "Hillary was gonna win hands down", or "Trump is a Russian Spy and colluded with Russians" as the only reason for winning for two Fucking years, as "FAKE FUCKING NEWS" !

EVERY Fucking person in Congress, meets and talks with Russians. They even have donuts with Russians, Kiss Russian cheeks, and they even tell Russians that they will have more leeway after an election.

I hear that Kids of Senators can make money with China for Big Buck returns for "Personal gains" also.

Who even reads those?

The "unnews" list is very short -

The People's Fish, Still "Hand Of The Queen"

The attempt to label all non liberal sources as fake new has failed. The list has been pulled.

Ooops! When calling out fake news is fake news.

News sources that correct their own mistakes are not "fake news". Trump REPEATS his false comments. THAT is "fake news".

Hey Bob....   Maybe you should consider DELETING the FAKE NEWS YOU POSTED

As the basis for my post is this from the SOURCE of your own post:

Letter from the Editor

May 2, 2019   Barbara Allen
Dear readers:

On Tuesday, April 30, Poynter posted a list of 515 “unreliable” news websites, built from pre-existing databases compiled by journalists, fact-checkers and researchers around the country. Our aim was to provide a useful tool for readers to gauge the legitimacy of the information they were consuming.

Soon after we published, we received complaints from those on the list and readers who objected to the inclusion of certain sites, and the exclusion of others. We began an audit to test the accuracy and veracity of the list, and while we feel that many of the sites did have a track record of publishing unreliable information, our review found weaknesses in the methodology. We detected inconsistencies between the findings of the original databases that were the sources for the list and our own rendering of the final report.

Therefore, we are removing this unreliable sites list until we are able to provide our audience a more consistent and rigorous set of criteria. The list was intended to be a starting place for readers and journalists to learn more about the veracity of websites that purported to offer news; it was not intended to be definitive or all encompassing. We regret that we failed to ensure that the data was rigorous before publication, and apologize for the  confusion and agitation caused by its publication. We pledge to continue to hold ourselves to the highest standards.

The entire premise for the post was, well, FAKE NEWS, which even the original source admitted to.

Deal with it John.
