The Dangers That Lie Beneath-- The Unseen Sides of Icebergs -- VIDEOS

Icebergs are beautiful and at times, deadly, (i.e. the Titanic). What lies beneath the iceberg? We know that only a small portion floats to the top, and few of us have ever seen the portions of an iceberg that are submerged below the surface. So, when I found this video, I thought that all of you may enjoy the utter splendor of an iceberg's hidden treasure:

Ever seen an iceberg calve? This is a video of an iceberg calving! Note: Hang on!

Lastly, Camilla Seaman follows icebergs and photographs them. I hope that you enjoy their beauty!

Thanks for coming by!

Hey, flame! Been missing you!

I never thought about it, either-- too bad the one that hit the Titanic hadn't rolled... Smile.gif

Dowser.... I've seen a lot of sea ice, and some pretty big chunks, but nothing like this. Many I have seen are bigger than the boat I was on.There is actually a place, aptly named Glacier Bay, in AK where tour ships go to watch. Unfortunately, it is a feeding ground for whales and their young on the way to the herring grounds in upper Bristol Bay. Many are killed and or scarred for life with their encounters with the ships' wheels(propellers). All in the name of the#1 AK industry, separating tourists from their money.

Hey, flame!

What a mess! Typically, mankind has no real business going there, but does. Poor whales!

Most of these are from Antarctica, I think... They sure are pretty colors!

LOVE you!

We went out to dinner, as usual, and by the time I came in out of the cold, my heart was beating strangely. I'm staying in from here on out until it warms up a bit. We've got plenty of supplies, and I don't need to be out in this!

The little dogs don't like squatting in the snow! I don't blame them! Tommy LOVES it. He goes out and runs and runs and rolls and rolls and is just so happy! But when he comes in, he is done and gets up on the bed with me, snuggling the heating pad...

Wish you were here, but you certainly have the better view! Smile.gif

My pleasure, dear Kavika! I had fun looking for videos that showed icebergs-- we don't have a lot of them around in KY... I hoped that everyone would enjoy seeing these wonders of nature!

Spectacular! Thanks for posting and bringing the beauty of nature into my warm home.

Our wishful thinking leaving IL was to leave the snow thrower and all shovels behind...we choose poorly! Although justification for staying home until it melts works for us too. Saw your posting about ice, it's not kind to tires or feet, be careful. Spring is coming, eastern TN is suppose to be in the 50's in about a week.

My wife and I went on an Alaska cruise about ten years ago. At one point, the ship cruised slowly into a fjord, with tall, steep walls on both sides, and at the end was a glacier. The ice was blue -- not a pale watery blue, but a vibrant electric blue. The air was suddenly much colder than it had been just a few minutes earlier.

The ship had to take its time turning around, because the little "harbor" was clogged with floes -- micro-icebergs, I suppose...
