Facebook bans fake Russian accounts targeting US voters

Facebook has banned dozens of accounts linked to a Russian agency that is accused of being behind a mass misinformation campaign. Many of the accounts claimed to be based in Florida and representing activist groups.

Facebook has announced new security measures aimed at preventing its platform from being used to interfere in elections, including the suspension of a network of Russia-based accounts containing "divisive" political messages aimed at US voters.
The social media giant faced heavy criticism over failing to prevent fake accounts based in Russia from spreading misinformation during the 2016 US presidential election campaign.
The company said Monday that the banned networks "showed links" to Russia's Internet Research Agency, which operated a "troll farm" Washington says was instrumental in interfering with the 2016 vote.

Facebook has admitted that the Internet Research Agency was able to exploit the platform to reach 126 million Americans during the election.
In 2018, the US Department Justice indicted the Internet Research Agency for "creating false personas" to operate social media pages "designed to attract US audiences," addressing divisive US political and social issues and "falsely claiming to be controlled by US activists."

A report released Monday by the social media analytics firm Graphika said the takedown involved 50 accounts on the picture sharing platform Instagram, half of which claimed to be based in swing states, especially Florida.
Graphika said the accounts were all linked to the same operation and claimed to represent activist groups from both sides of the political spectrum with a high potential for polarization.
These included "black activist groups, advocates speaking out against police violence, police supporters, LGBT+ groups, Christian conservatives, Muslims, environmentalists, gun-rights activists, southern Confederates and supporters of Senator Bernie Sanders and President Donald Trump."

"The operators went to great lengths to hide their origins," said the Graphika report, adding that most of the posts were memes without text.
The campaign also appears to have been created recently, Graphika said, with most of the Instagram accounts in the operation having a low number of followers and a combined total of 75,000 posts.
Amid warnings from US officials of election interference in 2020, other steps announced by Facebook on Monday include labeling posts from state-controlled media, and adding hacking protection and monitoring services for accounts of elected officials and candidates.

For those who are still in denial about the imminent threat posed to our nation by hostile Russian influence over our American elections this should be a wake up call. We are under attack by a foreign enemy who desires to misinform you and lead us all into danger. For all of those who are still spreading such harmful foreign propaganda on American social media, the crap we all see which is specifically designed to misinform and divide American voters, this should be a finall warning. They are coming after you. You will be identified and you will be condemned for your blatantly anti-American activities. If it looks fishy and it sounds fishy and it smells fishy then it is probably rank anti-American foreign propaganda...

Putin and his pals are pretty smart fellas and will figure out how to overcome the censorship by media providers.

Freedom of speech allows them to attempt to influence our elections, although there is no real evidence the Russians actually interfered in out last election or changed its outcome.

We in the US also attempt to influence other nations elections and voting outcomes.

Who wrote this?

A Meme without text is a picture.

So Russia posted pictures to hack the election?

WRONGO! Robert Mueller's Report described all those faithless Americans who spread harmful divisive anti-American Russian on American social media as the, "Willing Dupes of our enemy Russia". Mueller also determined that 100% of the crapola fed onto American Social media from Putin's Russian Troll Farm was pro-Trump and anti-Clinton during the 2016 election cycle. From there it was spread to millions and millions of Americans on social media. Right wing chumps ate it up and share it endlessly on Facebook and other outlets. Don't believe me? Do a little research of your own...

"Between June 2015 and August 2017, millions of Americans were exposed to Facebook ads and posts generated by Russian operatives who sought to influence voter behavior and exploit divisions in American society on hot-button issues. A number of the ads released during the House Intelligence Committee hearing on Nov. 1 reveal how the Russians used Facebook’s advertiser tools, as well as free posts, to target people by their interests, political leanings, location, age and other traits".

If what you claimed occurred actually happened, you could, of course, provide proof of it. But since we all know you are spreading misinformation you can do nothing of the sort.

The rest of your post is textbook goalpost moving, a classic technique of propagandists. You got caught trying to mislead NT and want to move on to other topics.

So, rather than play your game of constantly switching subjects I'll wait for you to support  your original claim that  "Trump asked Ukraine to manufacture dirt on Biden, " which is just another example of progressives inventing statements when reality doesn't take them where they want to go.

What exactly then was that big big favor regarding the Bidens that Trump was demanding if it was not that Ukraine manufacture dirt on Joe Biden? I ask this because that whole Ukraine- Hunter Biden - Burisma thang has been investigated thoroughly and Joe Biden did absolutely nothing illegal. If you want to talk about making it illegal for the families of those in power to profit off their proximity to power we can start with Don Jr, Eric and Ivans since they are the one doing so blatently right now...

And, what in the actual fuck does any of that have to do with all the illegal foreign interference in our American elections on American ?

I will submit that the vast preponderance of anti-American propaganda today is emanating from our very own Congress, predominantly from Adam Schiff and  Nancy Pelosi.  They are accomplishing with hyperbole and rabid anti-Trump invective's, what our adversaries could never have hoped to accomplish with their pathetic "social media" campaigns.   The American people are too smart to believe what foreign idiots try to foment, but the lemmings most certainly will follow blindly behind the rabid anti-trump radicals in their own political party.

Of course President Trump will be impeached.  The Democrats in their vitriolic hatred of the man will push though Articles of Impeachment from a committee HOPING that the full House of Representatives will vote for impeachment THIS TIME (it has already been tried three times before and failed).

Of course, that is entirely immaterial as it is an effort in futility as he will remain in office and will not be removed by the Senate.  Then once that debacle has been finalized, President Trump will return to the campaign trail and very likely win his second term in office starting in January 2021 and the 'Never Trump" and 'RESIST' maniacs can reinvent themselves into something new.

Now, here's a bit of information that has here-to-fore escaped you.  Unless we, as in The United States of America, totally isolate ourselves from all potential sources of correspondence on a global basis, we will always have foreign influence in our elections. FORTUNATELY, the majority of the American population is smart enough to recognize the interference and simply brush it off.  Kind of like I brushed off the insanity of the Schiff reading in Congress.

The main stream media is nothing but 'faux' news, created to conform to the talking points of their controllers.

Once you've been convinced that you can only get your news from back ally partisans, their job is done, the back ally partisans own you and can tell you whatever they want and they know you'll gobble it up like obedient little lap dogs. If you think that it's everyone else who have gone crazy and you're the only sane one, the only one who can really see what's going on, it usually turns out to be exactly the opposite.

Donald Trump is a serial liar, but most of his supporters don't see that as a flaw, they see it as a feature. Just because the supposed "MSM" presents negative stories about the known liar in chief, that does not make them "fake news".

The fact is Russia wanted Trump to win. Donald Trump openly admitted he didn't think sanctions on Russia would be necessary if he were President. He openly asked Russia to look for Hillary's deleted emails with the obvious attempt to help his campaign and hurt his opponents and Russia immediately complied regardless of whether you think Trump was serious or not in the public ask. Russia spent $1.25 million a month on fake ads and a social media blitz designed to look domestic instead of foreign. Russia illegally hacked private US citizens and illegally released the emails in an effort to embarrass and hurt Trumps political opponents the same day an embarrassing tape of Trump was released by his opponents. Putin himself openly admitted he wanted Trump as President and directed his government to surreptitiously help Trump get elected.

“President Putin, did you want President Trump to win the election and did you direct any of your officials to help him do that?” - reporter Jeff Mason

“Yes, I did. Yes, I did. Because he talked about bringing the U.S.–Russia relationship back to normal.” - Vladimir Putin

Putin is nothing but an authoritarian dictator who has had dozens of opponents, dissenters, journalists and defectors assassinated, jailed or disappeared, forcibly took over Russian media, stuffed ballot boxes and used violent tactics and fear to take power and effectively made himself President for life by removing any sort of term limits. And now we've got our own President who Putin helped install many of whose supporters seem to be fine with Russian tactics because the ends justify the means in their warped fascist minds. They're willing to make a deal with the devil if it guarantees the neighbors and fellow American citizens they hate and despise will suffer. Very sad.

Bad Form! Very bad form, indeed...

poor, poor messenger.

As I noted, if it's all lover American media, use an American media source.  You CAN do that can't you?

Oh, no one is denying that 'facebook' has removed accounts.  They have a history of doing that.  However, their reasons for removals have been questioned numerous times as they have themselves shown appreciable bias.  And yes, that's also "all over American media".

So, your original argument was just to be an annoyance?

Why are you making that preposterous claim?   You CAN provide a source to support your contention other than FOREIGN MEDIA, can't you?  I provided a link to some questionable Facebook removals but it in no way supports your original claim.

That is debatable.   They publish here, but are radical left progressives.

What's hilarious is someone who uses oversized bold type to make up for the fact that their comment is a beyond moronic attempt to derail the seed without countering a single fact presented in the seeded article.

My favorite disinformation campaign was Robert Mueller's lazy attempt to indict Concord Management who bought $1600 worth of ads on social media during the course of the campaign. The mystery troll farm everyone was talking about. No one thought the company would hire actual lawyers and answer the indictment. The prosecutors have yet to furnish the evidence in discovery because there is none. The Judge in the case ordered the Mueller team and the DOJ to stop using the allegation of a troll farm in the press etc because of the lack of evidence.

The Obama administration did nothing about Russian interference because it wasn't a threat. The only collusion occurred when Democrats hired Fusion GPS and a Foreign Intel officer to pay Russian oligarchs for disinformation.

They spied on the Donald and got caught, they then doubled down and wasted three years of the country's time and credibility on this corrupt and false narrative.

The DOJ recently expanded the Durham investigation and has taken possession of a foreign cell phones used by CIA sourced with sims cards provided by John Brennan. The Obama era CIA and Intel community have all lawyered up now and for good reason.

Anyone Remember when Ted Kennedy tried to enlist the KGB to take out Reagan?

Russian collusion isn't new, The democrats have colluded with Russia on several occasions.

Now they want you to believe someone else did? No dice, you got caught again!

Thank you for finally being brave enough to come out in support of those malicious forces caught spreading misinformation, fake news and harmful anti-American foreign propaganda to Americans on American  internet. That took a lot of guts. Not very many Americans would be willing to come right out for Putin and Russia and against the United States of America butt you just did. Good job fella!  Good jobb indeed. Somebody should sign you up for a gold medal. In, Russia...

He gave Russian diplomats 48 hours to get out of the country.

Obama expels 35 Russian diplomats in retaliation for US election hacking

The Obama administration on Thursday announced its retaliation for Russian efforts to interfere with the US presidential election, ordering sweeping new sanctions that included the expulsion of 35 Russians.

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2016/dec/29/barack-obama-sanctions-russia-election-hack

Almost 4 years later and Dumbass Donny STILL hasn't even admitted Russia attacked our election process. But you want to claim Obama did nothing? This was done the day after the 2016 election. Why wait? Because if Obama had acted before the election, the right would have complained he was trying to influence the election. But since he waited, so as to not unfairly influence the election, the right just complains anyway. No matter what Obama did, the right would just cry about it.

No dice, you got caught again!

Yes, yes you did.

As usual Obama led from behind only acting after the election.

Actually, there were many things the Obama administration was attempting to do quietly, they even went to McConnell and requested congress to approve some more aggressive actions in response, which of course Mitch rejected no doubt pleased with the idea that Russia was trying to help a Republican get elected.

What the Obama administration didn't do was to come out publicly during the 2016 campaign telling the American people that Russia was behind the hacks and were actively pushing a social media campaign in an attempt to throw the election to Trump, even though that was what was happening. If they had, Republicans would have lost their minds outraged that the Democrats in office were tainting their candidate with Russian ties during the campaign. Only after the election did we find out the Trump campaign was under investigation, unlike the public announcement just days before the election that the Hillary investigation was being reopened. So if the investigation into the Trump campaign was all a Democrat scheme to undermine Trump it makes absolutely no sense that they would wait to reveal it till after the election. If that's the supposed power of some shadowy "deep state" then they're about as powerful as homeless man standing on a milk crate in an ally shouting at the world.
