Comedian Jim Gaffigan TORCHES Trump in Epic Rant Following RNC Speech: ‘Wake the F*ck Up!’
I dont give a fuck if anyone thinks this is virtue signaling or whatever. We need to wake up. We need to call trump the con man and thief that he is.

S E E D E D   C O N T E N T

Comedian   Jim Gaffigan   is well known for his observational humor that is mostly apolitical and universally loved. His material often relies on spinning comedic takes on the lives of quiet desperation that is accessible by Democrats and Republicans alike. The practicing Catholic comic— born and bred in the Midwest—rarely, if ever, works blue, and is well known for mostly avoiding hot button and divisive topics, like politics.

800

All of which makes his Thursday night tweetstorm, which he began during President   Donald Trump’s   acceptance speech that closed the Republican National Convention. The 18-part thread called out specious claims of “deep state,” “cancel culture,” and “Trump Derangement Syndrome” in a remarkably harsh and candid assessment of President Trump and his base of supporters.

The tweets speak for themselves, so without further ado, read ahead:

Heading to bed but remember
– If you want to sound crazy please tell me about THE DEEP STATE.
– To sound stupid please be against CANCEL CULTURE but then accuse anyone with an opinion of Virtue signaling.
– Trump Derangement Syndrome is meant to distract from the con of Don

— Jim Gaffigan (@JimGaffigan)   August 28, 2020

Trump literally ran Paul Ryan out of politics. Why? Paul Ryan knew Trump was poison. So does Romney. Trump is not a conservative or even a Republican. You know that. You know Barr is dirty. You know if Trump gets re-elected it's over. How many books have to be written?

— Jim Gaffigan (@JimGaffigan)   August 28, 2020

Trump derangement syndrome is part of the con. Wake up. you know Fox News is biased and full of loons. it's how they gaslight and silence criticism. Do you think any of those congressional republicans really believe in Trump or do they fear him dont want to end up like Flake.

— Jim Gaffigan (@JimGaffigan)   August 28, 2020

I dont give a fuck if anyone thinks this is virtue signaling or whatever. We need to wake up. We need to call trump the con man and thief that he is.

— Jim Gaffigan (@JimGaffigan)   August 28, 2020

Trump budding up with dictators is RADICAL. Trump having interfering with the justice department is RADICAL. Trump pandering to the police and army (I gave 3 raises) is RADICAL.

— Jim Gaffigan (@JimGaffigan)   August 28, 2020

You know Trump just creates enemies. You know you can't trust him. You know he been incompetent during this crisis. You know all those people didn't need to die. Trump talks about the Space Program and you can't safely go to a movie. Wake up

— Jim Gaffigan (@JimGaffigan)   August 28, 2020

Remember everything Trump accuses the Democrats of he's guilt of. Dont let the socialist name calling distract you from the fact he is a fascist who has no belief in law.

— Jim Gaffigan (@JimGaffigan)   August 28, 2020

Please dont buy that socialist crap either. Obviously Obama wasn't a socialist. This is all lies to scare you and you know it. Biden is not radical. Are you serious?

— Jim Gaffigan (@JimGaffigan)   August 28, 2020

can we stop with this HOLLYWOOD shit. I'm not from Hollywood and Hollywood is just a town. Please say coastal elites (which Trump, Jared and Ivana are) Maybe people on the east and west coasts have different values from yours but they dont like liars and con men like trump.  https://t.co/F9A12uG2TI

— Jim Gaffigan (@JimGaffigan)   August 28, 2020

What bravery from the cowards who are against equal justice. Wake up. Don't you know history will make you the fool.

— Jim Gaffigan (@JimGaffigan)   August 28, 2020

Fuck Lou Holtz. Biden is Catholic in name only? Compared to who? How many abortions did trump pay for? How many women has he raped? How many times did pull the shit he did in Ukraine. Wake up. He's a crook and a con man.

— Jim Gaffigan (@JimGaffigan)   August 28, 2020

You know he lies. Constantly. Yet you dont care? What because he insults people that make you and me feel dumb?

— Jim Gaffigan (@JimGaffigan)   August 28, 2020

to those of you who think Im destroying my career wake up. if trump gets elected, the economy will never come back.

— Jim Gaffigan (@JimGaffigan)   August 28, 2020

I know you hate snobs and elites I get it but look at Ivana and that douche bag Jerod. Think they are on your side? Do you think they've ever done a real days work in their lives. Wake up

— Jim Gaffigan (@JimGaffigan)   August 28, 2020

By the way you can't be against Cancel Culture and tell people to stay out of politics. You know that time you did a job and didn't get paid? That's trump and you know it.

— Jim Gaffigan (@JimGaffigan)   August 28, 2020

Look Trumpers I get it. As a kid I was a cubs fan and I know you stick by your team no matter what but he's a traitor and a con man who doesn't care about you. Deep down you know it. I'm sure you enjoy pissing people off but you know Trump is a liar and a criminal.

— Jim Gaffigan (@JimGaffigan)   August 28, 2020

excuse me while I treat myself to confronting some asshole trolls…

I love Jim Gaffigan.  I remember watching one of his stand-up specials with my dad, sister, and nephews and we all laughed our asses off!!!  I just read a piece on him in Parade magazine, a weekly that comes with a lot of newspapers, and he said he loves to play the dumb guy who thinks he's smart.

Sounds like some tRump supporters.  Only they're not playing.

Spot on. Most Trump supporters I've listened to for more than 2 minutes clearly express how much they love how Trump pisses off liberals and progressives. Could you imagine liberals and progressives expressing how they may not like everything Obama did, but they just love how he pissed off conservatives? Why is being divisive a quality conservatives value? I get that they not only don't want to give up prejudice and discrimination, but to be so enamored with hate for their fellow Americans seems so pointless.

Liberals and progressives want an America for for everyone regardless of race, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, faith or lack thereof, which even includes conservatives. The feeling, however, is obviously not mutual. If conservatives weren't trying to inject their faith into our schools, government and public spaces or fighting to conserve some imagined right to discriminate against their fellow law abiding, tax paying citizens and weren't turning a blind eye to the systemic inequality that any rational unbiased observer can see, then liberals and progressives wouldn't have a problem with any of them.

I really don't give a rats ass if they want to live the way they want and have the head of the household vote for their women, let them choose not to get abortions, let them worship all day every day, let them build their churches on almost every street corner, let them refuse entitlements, let them believe in a 9,000 year old earth or a global flood, hell, let them believe in a flat earth, faked moon landing or even that global warming is a hoax.

As long as they stop trying to push their nonsense on the rest of society I really couldn't care less about them living the way they want. This is, of course, the exact opposite of how conservatives feel about liberals and progressives. They demand we give up our right to abortion access, demand we allow them to inject their faith into schools and government, demand we allow them to discriminate in businesses and public spaces against fellow lgtbq Americans, they freak out if we choose to elect a Muslim or a non-Christian to any elected position, and they reject any reality based examination of society that finds systemic inequality for minorities or women because in their minds they see it as an attack on their desired white Christian patriarchy or diminishing some fantasy "white culture".

I actually don't care who the comedian is or if I like his/her stuff normally. Once they bring their personal direct political opinion in, they lost me; yes, even if it's a similar stance as my own. General comedic statements about all politics / politicians I can get passed, but not direct personal opinions. I simply don't find it funny and I don't even find it remotely tasteful.

Is he not an American citizen like you and me? If this were part of his stand up routine I might agree with you, but these are simply the opinions of an American voter who also happens to be a comedian. Would it make any difference if he worked as an Uber driver? Perhaps he has more exposure because of his work as a fairly well known comedian, but I don't think that means he should keep his opinions to himself when just about every other American is shouting their opinions from their rooftops (aka social media/twitter).

I simply don't find it funny and I don't even find it remotely tasteful.

I'm not sure it was ever intended to be funny. It sounded more impassioned to me. Was he crass? Yes. Was he disrespectful of some in politics? Absolutely. But he was also honest and rational in his dismantling of the right wing insanity bubble. He calls Trump a liar, we all know that's true. He calls Fox News is biased, that's true. He points out the sad lie from Trump and his followers calling all Democrats socialists is total rhetorical bullshit. He pokes holes in the right wing faux anger at supposed "cancel culture" as completely hypocritical, just ask Goodyear. I didn't find any inaccuracies in his statements, though admittedly many things he said were merely his opinion which we should all be free to express regardless of our occupations.

I think that's asinine too. I don't shout any opinions from anywhere personally. And no, it wouldn't matter to me if he were an Uber driver. I don't really care to hear people force their opinions on me. Someone else's opinions have no bearing on mine, but people seem to somehow believe that their opinions are superior to someone else's. And many comedians today have brought their personal direct feelings about politics into their stand-up acts. I feel that it should be things that anyone can laugh at and relate to, to some extent. I don't find any importance in anything anyone famous has to say about American politics.

I don't spew my opinions about politics at my workplace. Why do famous people believe they should?

How is Jim Gaffigan "forcing his opinions" on you? He made some statements, others who found them factual re-tweeted them and someone here seeded an article about it. No one is forcing you to read them, think about them and respond to them.

How is what he said any different than you posting your opinions about his comments? Wouldn't that mean you're "forcing" your opinion on anyone who reads comments here on NT?

Someone else's opinions have no bearing on mine

That's nice. I guess I was mistaken in thinking your expressed opinion here was at all effected by Jim Gaffigan's opinions, and your ensuing rant about his opinion had nothing to do with his opinion.

somehow believe that their opinions are superior to someone else's

Where in any of his tweets does he claim he or his opinions are "superior" to anyone else's?

many comedians today have brought their personal direct feelings about politics into their stand-up acts

True, but that's not what happened here, is it?

I feel that it should be things that anyone can laugh at and relate to, to some extent.

And that's your opinion which you're welcome too, that you are here expressing to others, no different than Jim Gaffigan expressing his opinions.

I don't spew my opinions about politics at my workplace. Why do famous people believe they should?

Yet you're here doing it apparently willingly. And is twitter now to be considered comedians or anyone else's "workplace"? Really?

Anyone posting to Twitter feels their opinions are superior because it gets a lot of traffic.

Yet you're here doing it apparently willingly. And is twitter now to be considered comedians or anyone else's "workplace"? Really?

Is he a public figure? Yes. Is Twitter a public forum? Yes. Do public figures use Twitter as a place to advertise, announce an upcoming show, or express their views and opinions for all to see? Yes. Therefore, it's part of a public person's workplace.

How is Jim Gaffigan "forcing his opinions" on you? He made some statements, others who found them factual re-tweeted them and someone here seeded an article about it. I apologize... I should've said express their opinions in a public place rather than "forced". And yes... I'm expressing my opinion about him thinking that he's special enough that his opinion matters to the world.

As for me... the world doesn't come to NT. I personally don't give a tiny rat's rear-end if you or anyone else decides to read what I stated. My initial reply was a general statement and not directed at you personally whatsoever. Hell, it's not even your seed. So, that decision was yours to read and respond to my general thread. What I find funny is that you picked out specific little pieces and acted like I said something terrible when I simply stated [in fewer words], what he did is in poor taste. You won't find me on Twitter or Tik Tok, or whatever else is super popular. I think they're ridiculous and self-serving. I generally enjoy having conversations with people here on NT. I've been here for 8 years. I prefer it because there's far fewer people than the likes of the aforementioned.

Have a lovely weekend.
