IS IT TIME TO PUT THE HOLOCAUST TO REST?

Because this is a sensitive topic, I ask that it be discussed in a respectful manner. Thank you...:-

I found this well written article at NV, and asked the author "the.laird. of. the. north." if I could have his permission to post it here, and he said sure.

The fact that you posted this article implies your support for even asking the question. Perhaps you should also be explicit of your opinion.

Personally, I support "NEVER FORGET!!!"

I also say NEVER FORGET! It' a very, very, important part of history. It happened, and I don't understand how or why somepeople claim that it didn't. sigh...

Ifwe were toforget the past. our future is doomed.

This is what I have to say on the topic.

No one said anything during the Armenian Genocide by the Turks. !.5 million souls murdered.

Here is what Hitler said about it:

"....with orders to them to send to death mercilessly and without compassion, men, women, and children of Polish derivation and language. Only thus shall we gain the living space(Lebensraum)which we need. Who, after all, speaks today of the annihilation of the Armenians?"

This is what happens when people forget. 12 million more people murdered.

We should never forget!

It would be a travesty if any of these were to be forgotten.

Hitler wanted his Aryan "race" to be the masters of the world, killing or subjugating anyone who did not fill that mold. I'm sure Santayana was right in that if we don't learn from history we are bound to repeat it. Why then do I see us allowing a "tiny sliver" of a religion to kill or subjugate those who do not fill their mold?

Obviously "Never forget" are empty words to so many.

And no one said doodley squat about the Native American genocide by the US, begun by the British...

I'd say, no, we can never forget, for all of us, each and every one, has the capacity to, if not participate, to abet by ignoring.

Create an atmosphere of fear, muzzle the media so that the only news available is what you want out there, obliterate the opposition, and bingo, you have a recipe for a holocaust. First, you kill the thinkers, then you kill those with a conscience, and then, you can kill anyone you like.

NEVER forget.

Millions and millions of American Indians/First Nationsdied. As did millions more in Central and South America. This is the holocaust that no one wants to admit. Every excuse in the world is used, that it never happened.

As with the Jewish, Armenian, Indigenous people of the Americas, and the latest, the Bosnian genocide. NEVER FORGET.

The current Pope is canonizing Father Junipero Serra in the near future in the ''City of Brotherly Love''...Serra's history and that of the Missions are a page in the death of thousands of Indians, yet that is ignored by the Church.

Makes one kind of sick, doesn't it? The church needs to wake up, too. Perhaps acknowledge that the crusades weren't that wonderful an idea, or the inquisition? That won't happen any time soon...

Thank you for YOUR opinion, which in MY opinion is dumbassed. What I as speaking of was the "implication" (if you know what I mean and I guess you don't) NOT the indication of an opinion.

I guess I'm just not as reasonable as YOU are. After all, asking Nona to be more explicit of her opinion (which is what I did, if you can read English) is not in your mind considered asking for clarification.

Dowser,

On my trip to the Vatican, I would say that they are still a bit in the dark ages when it comes to what they did to indigenous peoples. There was a map there that was from Verrazano and it literally said, "No mans land" on what was the part of the US that he mapped. So the canonization ofFather Junipero Serra, is just another slap in the face to Indians.

Or Cambodia. Or China. Or Darfur. Or Biafra. Or... Native Americans...

Except for the last one the incidents listed were irrelevant to western readers since they were not involved in these remote events ...

Of course, since I have an opposing view. As Major Strasser said to Captain Renault in Casablanca: "I would expect no less."

Below is a quote from a renowned figure today who fondly remembers the Holocaust. Sheik Yusuf al-Qaradawi is the most respected Muslim theologian in the world, chairman of the International Union of Muslim scholars, the spiritual leader of the Muslim Brotherhood, and in 2008 was voted in a Foreign Policy online poll as #3 in Public Intellectuals worldwide.

Throughout history, Allah has imposed upon the Jews people who would punish them for their corruption ... The last punishment was carried out by Hitler. By means of all the things he did to them even though they exaggerated this issue he managed to put them in their place. This was divine punishment for them.... Allah Willing, the next time will be at the hand of the believers.
